SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) -- The story of the San Francisco skyline is turning a new page. Unchanged for decades there is a new look, a new building on the block -- the Salesforce Tower.

"I've been dreaming about this building since I was four years old," said Mirjam Link, senior project manager for Boston Properties, the company that owns a majority share of the tower. "Even as a kid I was drawing tall buildings and high rise towers. No one in my family is in architecture or real estate or anything like that. Thirty-plus years later, here I am."

When the Salesforce Tower, currently under construction, is completed later this year it will stand at 1,070 feet tall.

The tower at 415 Mission Street is 61 stories and has 1.4 million square feet for commercial lease. Boston Properties says companies will start to move and work in the building this coming fall. The anchor tenant is Salesforce. Workers for the cloud computing company will occupy the lower 30 floors and the building's top two floors.

The builders are claiming it won't sink and lean like Joe Montana's high end apartment tower as they took pains to anchor the building to bedrock.

They can make it the national capital building when they split away.

Every time I am here I drive past this building, seems like its been years. I am still amazed they can build such a tall building on a small square of land like that. I would be nervous working/living next door this whole time.

Never. I am obsessed with the sinking building already. Obsessed in a horrified way.

I'm glad to see a return to towers, at least for a while. Always fun to see them go up and change the skyline.

I think Atlanta has 5-10 active 30+ projects, in addition to a couple planned 40+ and a 54 floor. The 54 floor development was supposed to be 74 but they dialed it back.

It's a tad bit phallic. Appropriate for San Fran.

From the picture it looks like it wouldn't only be 10 stories bigger than One Shell

Microsoft is going to regret not acquiring them back in 2015/16. The MSFT/SF relationship has been kind of funny though, at Ignite this past Fall Salesforce was a diamond level sponsor even though they are large rivals.

What do you think Salesforce is valued at currently?

I just looked it up out of curiosity. A lot of analysts think the company is worth 100x earnings (most companies are at about 15x). Their earnings for 2016 was $6.67 BILL.

Hopefully they'll make sure this one doesn't start leaning over after a few years
