All the new pickups are sitting closer to the ground, and SUVs are now pretty much crossovers. Are there any new 4x4s that can actually handle moderate off-roading without mods?

Remember the old Pathfinder commercials? They built it to go off-road. Now the pathfinder is a grocery getter.

All the new fullsize pickups are so slanted and low on the front end that a leveling kit is a necessity if you don’t want to break all the plastic below the bumper.

The only truck I see that has a 4x4 ‘stance’ anymore is the Tacoma, but I think they’re wildly overpriced.

What’s out there?

It's called get a 2500 model...you know, a real truck.
Or get one of those raptor types.

I hate that unlevel stand on the 1500 models...what is that about? It looks horrible. Trucks should come out of factory level.

This is false, but Ok.

Just one example 1997 Chevy 1500 4wd ground clearance was 6.9" data

2018 Silverado ground clearance is 8.7" data

You're being fooled by the proportions of the bigger truck making it look lower.

No, I don’t think thats right. Trucks today are much bigger and have better ground clearance than older models.

The lower valence is the difference. The 2018 is definitely lower than the 97

They make them look taller by increasing the height of the actual body panels

He may not be aware that the only way to create actual ground clearance is to have bigger tires.

Raptor > Tundra TRD Pro > Ram Rebel. Off road capability, that is. Trips to the service department: Tundra TRD Pro > Ram Rebel > Raptor. Raptor last because people beat the shite out of them.

I bought a preowned Chevy Colorado 4x4 and I take it off the road all the time. The original owner spent some serious cash on the tires, lift kit, and wench.
