New Orleans will pay 125 young people $350 a month for most of next year under a program that seeks to help youth build wealth and boost their financial literacy.

The program is aimed at residents aged 16 to 24 who are neither working nor in school, Mayor LaToya Cantrell and other officials said Thursday.

Those residents will receive the funds through a prepaid bank card provided by Mobility Capital Finance, also called MoCaFi. Charter school networks and other partners will refer program participants to City Hall.

It will neither build wealth, nor will it boost financial literacy. It will pass out of the hands of the recipients like water through a sieve.

What is the problem with people? If you don’t have any skin in the game, you have no concept of the hustle. You don’t respect something it took you nothing to gain.

Had to click on the link, even though I hate to give advocate clicks. But when I read this, I was like surely there's some type of work or school requirement to get the money....something to make them contribute to society in some way, right? I could maybe get on board with that, give people some money to get on their feet, drug test them (you know like people that contribute and have to get jobs), make them seek work ( you know like people who contribute), sure it will be managed like shite bc it's the government but.. Nope, nothing about that, just that the card will also double as entry for rec centers.

So basically we will just enable people to continue to not contribute. You want financial equity? Go to work, contribute to society in some tangible way, and I'd have no problem with my tax dollars trying to help you along the way. This is over the top ridiculous. City is lost.

It’s only a matter of time before enough takers eye the loot set aside by the producers for retirement. They’ll get Congress to confiscate it and distribute it. The elites won’t care because they will have the means to escape the resulting chaos.

That is great. I expect the results of the program to be publicized upon completion to see how it worked out
