Friend,
It is more challenging to get accepted at one Ivy League school than to get $10 million in scholarship offers after applying to 200 schools. Such a stunt is nothing but for publicity. It’s the equivalent of a QB passing for 500 yards in a game that the team loses by 50. It is a waste of time and resources to apply to that many schools and such a vainglorious effort should not be lauded.
Education is essential for a well functioning democracy. I applaud those youth who challenge themselves with difficult courses in school, be they English or calculus. I do hope this student decides to focus on learning rather than hitting a meaningless number of monetary offers. I am a proud graduate of Delgado who did not receive a scholarship, but I did receive a world class education there.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

This is the equivalent of going to 100 car dealerships and negotiating a 1000 discount at each one and claiming that you received $100,000 discount on a car.
He will only “receive” the scholarships from the college that he chooses. If the stays in NOLA, he has to survive to actually get the scholarships too.

i guess should have known, but i just don't understand people shitting on this kid for doing something positive, something that so many here clamor for from the AA community, and yet here it is, and STILL finding fault in it... wtf?
can't y'all just be happy for the kid, congratulate him on his achievements, and wish him well for the future? why is that so fricking hard?

How is this an accomplishment? It’s not like he’s a National Merit Finalist.

Applying to 200 colleges at 62.5% acceptance rate to hit a cumulative total in scholarships isn’t really an accomplishment. With common apps it’s not even that time consuming anymore to apply to multiple places. When the kid finally announces where he is going and possibly posts scholarship for that university than we could possibly celebrate something.
Or maybe if he posts receipts for paying for each application in full like every one else we could celebrate that he or parents already have the kind of money to be able throw money away on publicity stunts like this.

quote:WTF is this even supposed to mean. Almost by definition, if he applied to 200 schools, he was accepting a pretty low bar on many of them.
"I submitted college applications in August, with an eye on raising the bar high for college admissions.

quote:Well, I'm not sure that's right. e.g. if he were taking all AP courses, those are legit harder than the non-AP versions.
Everything above a 4.0 is just a game.

quote:Yep. We just did a college tour a few weeks ago, and that was explained. Outside of Ivy League schools, I'm certain my kid would be accepted by any university that she applied to. She's almost ran out of AP classes to take. Next year, she's taking AP Chemistry and AP Physics and I forget what the other AP classes she taking, and have already taken. She just took the ACT a couple of weeks ago and said it was easy. Looking very forward to seeing that first score.
Believe some schools use a single standard application which is sent to all

This is stupid. Criminal justice? Working for the Federal Bureau of Investigations or the CIA is hardly stupid.
Better off having a specialty like accounting or some hard science than CJ..
