More money isn't going to make people better at their jobs.
Roads and potholes aren't fixed correctly to begin with, making them worse. And you have complete morons working for the sewage and water board.

I hardly ever think about sales tax, had to Google that Dallas’ sales tax totals 8.25%, but I had lunch in Lake Charles and definitely noticed the 10.2% sales tax. Something about crossing that 10% threshold that gives you sticker shock.

Your article seems to say 2/3 goes to the 2 buildings that actually bring the tourists into the city. Also the OP said 1 out of 10. So how’s it 1.5%?

BGR did a report on orleans parish sales taxes based on 2015.
That’s sales tax. This is concerning the hotel tax.

New Orleans definitely gouges tourists. When you’re talking about an extra $80-100 a night for taxes and parking, that shite is ridiculous.

We complained about Mitch the Bitch too.
It's called wasteful spending on non-existent problems(statues) in lieu of real problems (infrastructure).
And let's not forget the political families that just outright steal taxpayer money.
And I'm from nola...born & bread. So no, not a country bumpkin.
And where do you get off with a not so veiled jump from "country bumpkin" to racist?
Shut up jackass.

So you think those buildings bring in 66% of the tourism into the city? They get 66% of the revenue (actually it’s closer to 75%, I believe) yet aren’t responsible for 66% of the tourism. How is that even remotely fair?
The breakdown is actually 1.5% of hotel taxes collected are returned to the city.

This money will come in handy to remove the statue of that devil Andrew Jackson and purge the city of anything caucasian. You go Latoya.

Edit: Also Page 12, Table 5, which is just hotel tax by itself.

This in particular tax is governed and legislated by Baton Rouge, not NOLA.

Cantrell contends 1.5%

Cantrell said New Orleans receives less than 1.5 percent of each dollar collected from the taxes and fees visitors pay. The Southern tourist destination is grappling with longstanding infrastructure challenges, including potholes, drainage problems and sporadic drinking water issues.

I am not normally for raising taxes when these cats running the show are free spending morons. That being said, if the city wants to add an additional tax to the hotel/motel tax structure that is TOTALLY dedicated to infrastructure needs...then I say go for it. Either the industry can handle it or it can't. My take, if Im going to New York and a "new tax" raises my room rate 10 bucks a night, then I'm not cancelling my trip. Besides, in the case of NOLA, that extra money paid in "new taxes" is well worth it to avoid breaking an ankle in a pot-hole imho.

That WDSU/AP article may be poorly written. The number in 2015 was 11 percent - which is just more than 1 in 10 - and I don't know of anything that would dramatically change that since 2015.

No facts were given just ignorance—but As long as youre safe in your small Alabama town led by the Roy Moore types you can think whatever you want of New Orleans.

Now this may be the dumbest thing I have seen on this board in a while. Hell this is even extreme for the poli board.
