quote:

The New Orleans Police Department is ending the use of “informational vehicle checkpoints” that were announced last week, NOPD spokesperson Ken Jones told The Lens late Wednesday.

quote:

The use of the checkpoints drew criticism from advocacy and civil rights organizations. The ACLU of Louisiana called the checkpoints unconstitutional and said they run afoul of the federal consent decree over the NOPD.

quote:

During first day of #NOPD seat belt checkpoints April 20, 923 vehicles passed through locations, 334 were stopped to ensure proper seat belts use & reminded of stay-at-home order. No citations issued. Officers using random selection to ensure bias-free enforcement.

They were always just informational checkpoints. People thought it was a cash grab to bust people with expired break tags and whatnot.

And this board led by our rural mouth breathers who love shitting on the city tied them into “muh constitutional rights durr durr...”

Officer: sir, do you know there's a stay at home order?

Driver: yes sir

Officer: are you aware it is best practices to wash your hands for at least twenty seconds and to wear a mask in public?

Driver: yes sir

Officer: Where are you coming from?
Officer: Where are you headed to?
Officer: When is the last time there was marijuana in this car?

Went through one the other day. They didn't "stop" anyone. Let the redlight do it for them. They were positioned to talk to the first two vehicles in each lane when the light caused traffic to stop. Otherwise, they just stood there hoping to not be run over when the light was green.

He’s an anti-trumper, of course he is. They don’t care about big government. The bigger the better.

If he is an anti-trumper he has to be torn since the ACLU is the one that ended it.

There were about 20 cops standing around on the corner of State and St Charles Ave yesterday.

The left used to be the ones wrapped around the axle about civil rights and now they cheer this shite because of their desire for government power. Really strange change in policy desire.

I get called Boot Licker on here all the time and I was 100% against these BS stops. Respecting police officers and wanting less government intrusion in my life are not mutually exclusive. No clue why the I Hate Cops crew can’t understand that.

The story you linked says:
quote:

They said that they were using a “non-random selection process to ensure bias free enforcement.”

That doesn't match the last quote in your post. The one I quoted above doesn’t make sense and was probably a mistake by the writer.

Anyway, the citizens of N.O. spoke up and changes were made.

I mean, it’s decriminalized in NOLA and a $40-80 ticket. They really don’t care about pot anymore from what I’ve seen.

That's double the cost of a parking ticket, but they damn sure worry about those. Saw a meter maid out earlier writing tickets

"Where's your mask, citizen? Are you aware our Supreme Leader has instituted a stay at home order? Your safety is paramount."

Nothing like getting a good chuckle out of the local government harassing its citizens.
