ETA: Judging by the downvotes, I get it now. People are afraid to say that it's because of the black people, so they use the euphemism, "demographics".
Let's just be frank and use the proper terminology. "Criminal element". People move away from crime.

My brother in law is in the know, he was involved in planning for the Super Bowl for three years.
Apparently after the truck incident and all the police presence the people who came to town did not spend the expected money.
A lot of bars, restaurants, motels on and on were hurt.

Amazingly there have been only 6 murders in the city this year (other than the terrorist attack).
The drop in murders started late last summer. Jeff sent the state boys in to clamp down on the worst criminals.
DA decided he finally wanted to do his job.
NOPD is slowly getting numbers back.
Not saying it’s going to last, but it’s been a nice trend.

50s at times...worse further West. Likely the most dirt I've seen since we have lived here...winds were pretty sustained. White capping on Lake Kickapoo

Isn't the whole state of Louisiana on a death spiral?
I was reading comments on another site and folks were saying how much they appreciated Louisiana.
They love us because it keeps them from being the dirt bottom of so many lists.

Every city in America that is run by a black democrat is on the same trajectory. This is not a surprise. Nola will be Detroit, but with a slower death because people give it a pass due to the ambiance. Ambiance is good for tourists, it isn’t good for people who live there and pay taxes. I’ve raised my kids to know better than to come back here. I am sure I am not alone in this.

I can only imagine how some of y’all would describe the city a hundred years ago, with gambling and prostitution everywhere, and real mafia running the docks. If you harken back to the good old days, when was that halcyon era?
Listen up and listen good. My mother grew up in NO proper in the 40-50s. She said it was fabulous and as a teenager they could walk almost anywhere and not be bothered by ghetto bullshite. Now she won’t even go to NO because it makes her so sad to see what it’s become.
I experienced it in the 70s and 80s as a child and teenager. It’s vastly different from my time as well and not in a good way. I loved going to Bourbon Street even just to hangout and people watch. Now? It’s horrible.
I’d rather have the mob running the FQ rather than what it is now.

He may have had a little point for some bars and restaurants away from downtown not getting the business they expected, but is full of shite about hotels/motels. They made bank.

NOLA pissed away a golden opportunity after Katrina.

They still vote for a mayor that has a shady past. It's been going on for years. Uneducated blacks and weenie white liberals always come through every 4 years. You can always count on them. Realistically, the city started to decline in the late 70s when Moon and Dutch were in office. It pathetic that some believe that Moreno will be different. She's basically Latoya in white skin and talks better.

Of the 10 closest houses to my house, 4 of them are couples/families from NO that got out within the past 3 years because the direction the city is headed. This is in PCola.

There are few educated people who want to live in risk and danger every night when they come home or go to the grocery store or the gas station

Not sure which neighborhoods they’re leaving from, but it ain’t Uptown.

I’m in Collin County north of Dallas and the metro gained the most people of any metro in the last 12 months from 23-24. 418 people a day move in and we now over 8.2M people in the metroplex(more than Louisiana and Mississippi combined). It’s crazy
I can’t tell you how many LSU and Saints stuff I see around town. Also more Cajun restaurants and Crawfish places.
For fat Tuesday, we went to a local place in Frisco and there was a 30 minute wait and almost every person had head to toe Mardi Gras stuff on and in the waiting line everyone was talking about what part of Louisiana they are from.

That could be a nice life.
Cost is what I would focus on. The asset may depreciate and running costs will go up. Right size the purchase and enjoy the food and fun.
Crime is a non factor for 99% of retirees.

I think that has more to do with what these big events like Super Bowls have now morphed into than anything else.
People coming to these things are now more focused on big corporate shindigs than hanging out at local restaurants and bars. It’s really gotten kind of lame in a way, but that’s what it is.
I’ve heard a lot of service folks did many times better for freaking Taylor Swift than they did for the Super Bowl.
