Are you surprised it resembles a third world country? It’s also a legitimate war zone in certain neighborhoods but we can’t talk about why.

That's not the argument. The argument is that New Orleans as a whole is not a shite hole.
As a whole, it's a nice city with tons of culture.
Every nice city in the country has shitty areas.
Therefore, you cannot extrapolate that an entire city is a shite hole just because you happen to venture into the shitty part of an otherwise nice city.
Get it? Logic.

By Louisiana standards, there is not a single ghetto in Boise. Yeah, there are homeless people, tweakers, and "rougher" areas, but nothing like you would see in New Orleans.

So you stopped in New Orleans after a category 2 had just blasted the place and all surrounding areas knocking out power to about 90% of the whole area and you were surprised that there were some challenges with credit card machines at gas stations?
I mean, I live in New Orleans and I know it clearly has numerous shithole aspects among the things that people love about it, but a stop in New Orleans was just a bad idea/poor planning today unless you absolutely had to be here today.
