are you really not intelligent enough to understand that the argument has nothing to do with whether or not people have the ability to smoke somewhere, but everything to do with whether or not the government can force a legal practice to be banned in a private establishment.

As much as I dislike this from a freedom point of view, it makes an amazing difference in quality of visits to establishments that use to allow smoking.
Tennessee did something similar awhile ago and I am so use to not breathing in that shite in restaurants that it is fricking terrible when I do go in a place that allows smoking.

Are there any bars that ban smoking now?
In New Orleans? Tons. Again, all of the hotel bars (which are mostly awesome). Lucy's, Rusty Nail, and Barcadia in the CBD are all really popular. Tipitina's Uptown.

smoking outside of bars has nothing to do with this discussion
Except for the fact that it was included in the OP's quote.

It's not itrleveant. Smokers can still easily smoke. Even without leaving the premise of the establishment they're at.
it is irrelevant b/c this discussion is about smoking inside of bars. y'all are trying to expand the discussion to make a point
that's intellectual dishonesty and has no place in a civilized discussion

It isn't the government's place to tell businesses they can't allow patrons to smoke.
The government was chosen by the people it represents. Sorry you don't like majority rule.

why are people so dumb that can't understand laws like this are an erosion of liberty?
I'm not OK with liberty looking like Louisiana's coast line. I would prefer to see many many other laws stricken from the books LONG before I look at this laws affect on my life.

For all of you whining and bitching that you'll take your business elsewhere - you won't. You'll push your fat arse out of your seats and step outside to smoke, which isn't that big of an ordeal anyway. Your laziness fuels your addiction and there's no way you'll drive an extra hour to go to a bar or casino when there's one right across the street.

I get it. The sky is falling. Rabble rabble gubermint tellin me how to live my life rabble rabble. At least all of us will be able to fricking breathe in a bar while said sky is falling.

Smokers are self righteous for thinking they can smoke wherever they want.
this is about businesses making that choice on their own property

For the lawyers in here, have business or the tobacco companies tried to get these types of bans overturned? If so, what have the courts said?
Posted on 1/22/15 at 2:14 pm to SlowFlowPro
You said it wasn't a trade off, now you're trying to exclude anything that shows it is a trade off.
No doubt you're a lawyer.

LaToya Cantrell also held up a picture of Dorothy Mae Taylor at today's vote. That will be sure to rustle some jimmies here.

Finn McCool's did. I know there was another that di too. Finn's made an outdoor smoking area.
Good for them! And I support their decision to do with what they thought was in the best interest of their business. This is how it should be. It shouldn't be the government making every bar do this against their will.

so your point is that since we already have a bunch of bullshite laws, adding more bullshite laws is ok?

but we're discussing the ban, which applies to smoking inside of bars
nothing changed smoking in a courtyard associated with a bar. why would that be subject to this discussion?

Pretty sure the bars I frequent won't follow the ban. They'd lose 95% of their customers.
If you're not gonna let me smoke in/around your bar, I won't come to your bar. Simple as that

Yes I know all about the sugar tax crap in New York.
You are just trying to get people riled up on another topic of government oppression, thus your are trolling.
