It’s going to be interesting to see what this translates to in the next few years.
I can tell you what it translates to. A failed city and a big decrease in the quality of life.

I'm interested in seeing what the job loss data is from April 30, 2020 to Sept 17, 2020 in Metro New Orleans because all I'm seeing is more and more businesses permanently close in Orleans Parish. Thanks JBE and LaToya for your great leadership!
Don’t confuse stats regarding the NO metro area with Orleans Parish. NO metro is made up of 8 parishes. I’d guess Orleans Parish was hit harder than 19% as the restaurant, hotels and other tourist related employers were crushed.

Yeah, but LaToya keeping us safe!

This is absolutely terrible news for the city and state. To think LaToya still has that city shut down is fricking stupid

This state should have been trying to diversify its economy for decades. Low energy prices are just adding fuel to the dumpster fire.

What about the 99 gazillion who never worked
Posted on 9/17/20 at 11:35 am to MrLSU
Could've put half of them to work on tearing down the Hard Rock

City had a hiring freeze except for -
"The city of New Orleans has hired Peter Bowen, the former general manager of major short-term rental operator Sonder, as the city’s new deputy chief administrative officer of land use. In his new position, Bowen will manage and oversee major departments including the Department of Code Enforcement and the Department of Safety and Permits, whose long list of responsibilities includes short-term rental permitting and enforcement."
no way there's any conflict of interest here

But the good news is that we saved maw maw and paw paw! We gave them another five years on this planet!
Obviously we don't want anyone to die if we can avoid it. If the last 5-6 months is any indication of the quality of peoples lives going forward, then hell no it wasn't worth it.
It's a fricking mess.

If you own a home in Orleans Parish now is the time to put that sucker up for sale and get out because LaToya and the other idiots on the city council are about to announce a massive tax hike on Orleans Parish residents which will kill your property values.

She even warned it was coming pre-COVID. Jefferson Parish real estate is booming.

Which is crazy given the current development going on. I work in CBD/Arts Distrtict and there are 2 large developments going up eight now with what I assume will be high end condos.
It just doesn’t make sense (outside of them being placed for out of towners to stash cash).
