Let's make it 30mph to be really safe.

I know you’re being a smartass, but you do realize setting the speed limit at 30 mph would probably reduce driving fatalities almost to zero.

If that zero meant someone you loved life was spared, that would be a good thing. But, we have to get places. Quickly.

Personally, law enforcement does a poor job of protecting our roads from speeders, etc. Sid Gautreaux’s posse included.

kind of surprised that there isn't a law where if you are caught driving that recklessly, you get your car impounded and get a trip down to the station.

The problem isn't with laws but lack of enforcement thereof

This isn’t a seat belt argument. When you hit triple digits on a public road you are putting everyone around you in danger because of the reduced reaction time to things out of your control.

So why are there no speed limits in some European countries?

That’s a fair point, I certainly feel badly for the officer. I was more referring to someone given a chance to correct and immediately blowing that chance because they insisted on driving almost double most highway speed limits.

How is this in any way, the cop’s fault?

No, I mostly defend alleged perpetrators of war crimes and dabble in a bit of bird law.

I watched this video the other day. It's weird. I first assumed they were teens, but the dude was like 24ish and the girl was even older than that. I was thinking maybe they were speeding to get her home, because of a curfew.

What's crazy is even while they were pulled over some other woman was screaming at them for their reckless driving.

Why continue to drive fast after all that? Bizarre.

Not replying to you, but I agree that it's absolutely not the cop's fault.

People are still accountable for their actions.

Terrible what happened to them, but thankfully nobody else was injured.

If the cop had taken him in that night it seems like he'd just do it again at some point. Doesn't seem like he follows the law. Maybe then he injures someone else.

I'm more interested at why they were doing this. Something was very strange about it. When he was pulled over the girl kept taking the blame.

I don't think the cop ever got an actual speed on him. There was no radar. He said he was turning right an was almost hit by him. If he didn't actually radar him he can't really write a speading ticket for "at least 100". So he made it seem like he was giving the dude a break but really, he probably didn't have actual evidence to write a speeding ticket.

I'm sure the guy slowed down when he saw the lights. It's likely the cop never was able to pace him.

We should beg the government to force smaller fuel tanks, too. That way we can make sure no one is going too far without stopping for a break. Also, there should be jammers in every car so people don't text and drive, ignition interlocks, and an armed agent to make sure you wear your seat belt.

WRONG!! The idiots speeding cause the accidents. You only feel this way because you get aggressive when someone impedes your ability to drive like an a-hole

or let everyone speed, the slow movers cause the accidents. Plus you can get somewhere

Yes, dang slow drivers in the left lane, should keep left lane for the fast drivers so they can break the law and drive 20–30 mile above the speed limit…
