That's not what this is about. I hate that fricking argument.
That is absolutely what this is about. Charging more to access another tier of web site. That is exactly what the fear mongering is. The flyers from reddit....that is it...period.

Today I learned that internet is a basic human right. Lol.

I'm certain the FTC will have something to say about that.....that falls outside of what is currently under scrutiny by the courts on that front in my opinion.
How will little Joe Blow get in front of the FTC? How can little Joe Blow afford attorneys that can fight ISP's attorney's?

You can't claim a victory for innovation when you're route to get there was disastrous for consumers.
That's like the FCC stating cable monopolies are the reason for Netflix, ergo, cable monopolies are a good thing.

Current Trump administration is exceptionally small, petty and stupid. Agree there.

Sure must suck to sell out for $12K and then see that someone else got a nice $1.6M.

You know what the biggest cable providers are doing right now? Buying all the spectrum so no one can use it.
This is factually false.
600Mhz / 700Mhz were recently bought in different capacities by the big three carriers for 5G.
Do you understand why 600Mhz and 700Mhz are significantly more valuable than higher frequency spectrum?

Wait, I thought it was repealed by the five voters on the fcc

No. It's not. It's about protecting content from ISPs.
It's about fair treatment of traffic across a pipe.
It's about ensuring that ISPs do not have direct control over content and innovation over the open internet

I don't give a frick what the fliers on reddit say. I hate that website and I never go on it. They don't dictate what the issue is.

why is net neutrality a bad thing?
Off the top of my head? It's crony capitalism and stifles innovation.

So is this the result of cable companies losing money on cord cutting so they are trying to find another way of getting it back?
Posted on 12/14/17 at 12:59 pm to tigerfan88
My hope is that if some of these ISP's actually try to push on charging more for certain sites, the world community will find ways around it. For instance, if it wants to charge you more to use Netflix, then a pass through site that isn't blocked may be the way around it, much like VPN. The ISP would only see data coming through the pass through site, and not Netflix. Eventually they'll just give up because their efforts will be fruitless.
This is how people in China get access to blocked sites.
I hope...

I don't know whether this is gonna be good or bad. It depends on which side you're on, republican or democrat, from what I'm reading.
My understanding is that this was passed during the Obama administration? My head tells me that being the case then repealing won't be a bad thing. If its just going back to the way it was before 2008 then OK I guess.

There is simply no way you can understand net neutrality and think it is crony capitalism and/or stifles innovation.
It literally is the exact opposite of that.
