If illegal content potentially could affect my QoS....they should deal with it.

Basically.

No one is going to be able to pinpoint the exact day their cable company turned to consumer nightmare shite and hit that sweet spot that eventually snowballed into them becoming one of the most loathed industries in America. It just gradually happened until one day you just look up from your 25 year old cable box that continually gets refurbished and you have to replace every 3 months, with its 90’s interface, look at your cable bill for 300 dollars, that was supposed to be 249 but some hidden fees and an unannounced rate hike bumped it up. And when you call you are given the most unhelpful person and total disdain by the company because they know you have no real viable competitors to get internet and football games. So they have no incentive to update their infrastructure or customer experience. Even the best of the worst like Cox were about a decade behind in adapting their more modern technology compared to other countries.

Then you create specific legal ways to address that specific problem if the current framework is inadequate.

You’re basically arguing to use a nuclear bomb to subdue a bank robbery.

What's funny to me is the only reason NN is a big deal is because ISPs are such a pain in the arse to deal with. People would probably be begrudgingly ok with fast lanes and the like if the cable company would just have decent customer service. It's a problem they made themselves when they could have just quietly squeezed us.

The only legitimate complaint I can field from someone is the issue about broadband being a utility.

Unfortunately, the easiest way to enact net neutrality was to classify ISPs as common carriers, like a utility, and then enforce net neutrality. I'm 100% for net neutrality, but I wish there was a better way to do it. All in all, I think the benefits of net neutrality outweigh the concerns of ISPs being a utility.

Don’t move goal posts because you know your argument got turned to shite.

It’s really lazy forum decorum and most people can see through it.

I mean his example is extreme but the logic is spot on. You don’t not pass a needed law because the harm it’s designed to prevent hasn’t become drastic enough yet. You pass the law to stop the harm from becoming that drastic. It’s like arguing we shouldn’t make attempted murder a crime.

Or like saying we shouldn’t pass any robotics laws or regulations, or UBI equivalent until over half the population is out of work

This is a threat to our country as well. People will support whatever issue their party supports, just because they think that if they don't then they will be supporting "liberals" or "conservatives".. depending on what side they are on.. . They are loyal to a system that doesn't give one single frick about them. "Republicans voted to repeal NN, Democrats voted against it. I am conservative and I hate liberals so repealing NN is what I support".. That's the mindset that so many people have.

Let's not forget both arguments are settled on a premise of if the carriers do or do not change plans.

Either way, you have to wait and see.

I don't even think he's even liberal or a conservative. I think he's just about making him and his friends as much money as possible, regardless of how many people it negatively affects.

He doesn't care about politics, only power and admiration.
