Negative experience with NEW Honda Civic

New Honda Civic, just 157 miles on it. Waited several months for delivery.
Oil leaking from the front area. Dealership says faulty front shock absorber, should have not been installed by factory. Dealership not providing loaner because car still 'drivable.' Part not available for possibly 2 weeks or more. Service manager suggests (somewhat seriously) suing Honda.

Dealerships have the upper hand now due to lack of inventory. They know people have a hard time finding new cars and they are taking full advantage of it.

Thanks. Please keep us posted.

A bad Honda is still better than a good Ford.

have you tried calling the main Honda? They (apparently) don't like it when dealerships frick with people

Hate to hear that. My first two cars were Civics and i loved them (last one being a 2000). Never had any issues with them. My dad bought an Accord about 10 years ago and had problems from day one as well. Unfortunately sounds like i wont be buying a Honda again.

Tell the service manager you are going to sue Honda and the dealership for selling you a lemon and see if they jump on that.

Car parked in garage at home with plenty of towels underneath to absorb leakage. And we wait.....and pay insurance on a NEW car that's not being used.

Surprised he didn't recommend replacing your cabin air filter too.

I start documenting for a lemon... those suits are hard to win if you're not diligent

Bad shock. Not a big deal. Drive it and have them replace it when the replacement part comes in.

if a hurricane hits tomorrow, you want coverage correct?

Typically normal dealerships don’t do loaners anymore. I had to pry one out of Nissan for a similar reason of bad front suspension on a brand new car.
High end dealers will give loaners, Mercedes, Audi, BMW, and Lexus. They keep a fleet of them and then eventually sell them as certified ore owned

Yeah Karen, it’s just a blown shock, not a big deal. You can absolutely drive it until the replacement comes in.

Go to a different Honda dealer. You don't have to have warranty work done at the place of purchase.

Drive it across uptown NOLA a couple times, the open ditches they call potholes will change that from a leaking shock to a burst shock.

It's a blown shock, I drove 100,000 miles with both blown in my 1990 Corolla. It'll be fine.

One bad part that they offered to replace doesn’t even begin to qualify for “a lemon”.
