A couple of days before Hurricane Katrina I was leaving to go to the north shore to my parents house. On the way I was listening to the radio, a New Orleans station. People were calling in with questions and giving updates on evacuating. I only remember one call today. This guy in his thirties called and wanted to know if the city would be doing any evacuating of people who could not help themselves. It comes out that this guy was blind and his "girlfriend" had evacuated with a couple of her friends and had left him behind. He had no family in the city and had no way of getting out. You could here the fear in his voice. I still wonder what happened to him.

Not a really creepy story, at least compared to the other ones posted on here. But, a guy I knew is in prison for murder.
He was the boyfriend of my girlfriend at the time's best friend. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a buddy, but I knew him well enough that we'd stop and chat if we happened to run into each other. He didn't have a car, so he'd occasionally call me for a ride somewhere. If I wasn't busy, I'd usually drive him wherever he wanted to go.
Anyway, one afternoon he calls me and says "Hey man I need a ride to a pawn shop on the westbank."
Something in his voice - whether it was the tone, or how he phrased his request - made me very uneasy.
"Sorry, I'm busy. Wish I could help."
He told me it wasn't a problem, then hung up.
An hour or so later he called me again with the same request. He sounded a little frantic.
"Look," I said. "I can't help you. I'm busy."
A few days later he was arrested for murder. He was calling me to drive him to the pawn shop to sell the items he had stolen from the victim's house.
Kind of fricked up that I was almost involved in this. Even more fricked up that I was acquaintances with a guy who was capable of such a thing.

It absolutely blows my mind that there are humans that can’t swim, much less millions of them. A child should be a strong swimmer by age 5 if it lives anywhere near major bodies of water.

Bluefin,
Just read this for the first time. What suburb did this happen?

About eight years ago, when I was still in high school, my family moved into a new home in a developing suburban area in Georgia. At the time, we were the only house on the street, surrounded by trees, and a main road about thirty yards through the trees behind the back of our house.

Think about swimming around cattle and floating pieces of jagged trees and overturned boats and whirlpools (literally) in fierce gale winds and driving rain.
That’s what the Audrey survivors talk about.
Ain’t no five year old making it through that alone.

Holy shite, I don’t even remember seeing that story. That’s a great one for this thread, and legit creepy as frick. Scary how crazy some people are out there in the world, and sometimes a lot closer than we’d like to think.
I may have to reread this thread soon. I’m sure there are some good ones that I may have forgotten about.

I wasn’t born until the 70’s, but scared the hell out of me growing up. My second oldest sibling was classmates with the two little girls that were killed. The piece of human garbage who committed the crimes is still drawing air.

Back in 08 as a freshman as Alabama, three buddies of mine and one of their girlfriends decided we wanted to go visit “Old Bryce” and get creeped out at 1 am.
Everybody thought, inaccurately at the time, that it was the original insane asylum which preceded the Bryce that sits on campus nowadays and had been abandoned since the 1800s. However, it was actually a separate facility for blacks and was abandoned in 1977.
Nevertheless, if any of you have been there you know how creepy and dilapidated the facility is now. Especially in the middle of the night.
So the 5 of us pull up around 1 am, all stupid and excited to walk around the campus. We’d only brought one flashlight and a hatchet. The main building is completely falling apart and overgrown with trees, making it very dark even in the driveway. From the outside you could see through the front pillars into the gaping void and total blackness of the lobby. We all looked at either with a nervous smile and took the plunge.
It was obvious how many ppl like us, and homeless, had been in there. The structure was completely falling apart, walls exposed, graffiti everywhere, mattresses on the floor, a porcelain tub in a corner. We circled up, with the girlfriend in the middle, and started making our way upstairs. I was in the back, constantly looking over my shoulder into the pitch black nervous as shite we were being followed.
We got up to the 3rd floor and starting looking out the windows. We looked out front to the car, and then looked out back and saw an outbuilding where we thought at the time was where “bodies were cremated”. These rooms were creepy as frick, mattresses everywhere. You couldn’t help but picture a scene out of a horror movie with some insane patient being experimented on while tied down to a bed. The moonlight coming in through the windows added a little light into the rooms, but the hallway was pitch black. Wherever the flashlight was pointed was literally the only thing you could see, it was that dark. That darkness where, to see what you want to see you have to focus on something a little off to the side of it.
We’d been lingering for about 5 mins, talking about whether we should go out back or not when this blood curdling scream erupted out of the darkness. To me, it sounded like some mixture between a dying cat and some demonic witches’ screech. It sent a shiver up my spine I’ll never forget.
We froze, heartbeats instantly jumped. We closed ranks around the girl, our breathing got heavy and the flashlight was pointing all over the place very rapidly. The stairway comes up in the middle of the facility with the wings branching out on either side. We were pretty far down the hallway and had maybe 30-40 ft to get to the stairwell.
As we start towards the stairs, we hear it again. I’m in the back of the group and realize that this bone chilling scream is on our floor. It’s coming from down the wing in the pitch black. Im backing towards the stairs looking down the hallway in the direction of the scream. My mind running wild with fear, imagining some demonic form with red eyes to begin charging our group.
My buddy yells back “I have a hatchet motherfricker!” There’s no answer just silence, the girl in the middle started crying at this point.
We finally make it to the stairs and start our way down. I can’t accurately describe the feeling I felt being in the back of the group, constantly searching the pitch black void to see if I could see anything. I kept expecting something to jump out of the darkness and grab me, dragging me back to some room and killing me.
We made it to the 1st floor and started running full speed back to the car. As we get outside we begin to get pelted by small rocks coming from up above. As I open the car door to dive in, I look up and see a hooded figure up in the window of a room we had been in only minutes prior. I couldn’t see a face, only a human shape outlined in the dark with a hood.
My buddy gassed it, slinging gravel as we got out of there.
We were all shaking and out of breath, we finally started nervously laughing about the whole thing as we drove back to our dorms. I didn’t sleep a wink that night.
There are all sorts of ghost stories about that facility, I even think a paranormal team has been in there with a camera crew. I personally think we ran into a homeless person who had made that 3rd floor his residence. But how a person can make that demonic like screech, I have no idea. I’m just thankful we got out of there without something bad happening. 12 yrs later and I can hear it like it was yesterday. I’ll never forget that sound coming out of the darkness.
Here’s the front, I saw the hooded figure up in the top right window.

Sort of. That's just part of one part (the second or third part I think). The whole story is 6 (I think - maybe 7) parts.
