In the early 2000s I invited my 91 year old uncle and my 89 year old dad to my house for the LSU game. I have a high def projector on my counter and shine a game image on a large bare wall. The game itself was boring, a directional school beatdown. But then I noticed the shadow of a small thin girl in a gown on the right side of the walls video image.
She was just standing there facing the left. I assumed it was my wife but then remembered she had left the house 30 minutes earlier. But, as I turned, nothing was standing in front of the projector. I turned back around confused by the shadow still standing in the bottom right corner of the wall. Suddenly, her shadow starts to move across the wall. She doesn't turn her head at all and I can't tell if she's walking or floating because the projector image ends a foot and a half above the floor.
She is moving very slowly like she wants us to see her.
I look at my dad and uncle and know they are oblivious to what's happening. Finally I yell "Are y'all watching this" and point to the shadow.
My uncle was hard of hearing and didn't respond but my dad saw the shadow just as she exited the image on the left. "Did you see her?" I asked my dad.Yeah I saw something but I'm not sure what it was."
Here's the thing. I recognized her. It was my uncle's deceased wife who committed suicide in the late 60s jumping off the old Baton Rouge bridge.
My poor aunt was very sick and ended it about 1969. But she still followed her husband, waiting for him..
My uncle finally joined her 3 years ago. May they both rest in peace.

This is one of my all-time favorite OT threads, so I tend to get unreasonably excited every time it gets bumped.

I’m not a good story teller but I’ll give it a go.
When I was growing up my great grandfather was a Cherokee Indian chief and he passed things onto my grandfather that some might call supernatural. He could do things like heal warts, he would make my migraines go away and I even saw him stand over this kid who had been in a wreak chanting over him. I was too young to know what was going on but my mom told me he was stopping the kid from bleeding out. I never really believed what he did was anything but coincidental and didn’t believe in it.
Well, my grandfather died in the late nineties and life went on. I got engaged to a girl from Metairie and she would tell me the house she grew up in was haunted all the time. Her mom told us stories of things flying off the walls and her sister would see these black hooded figures throughout the house.
One night we were in town for Christmas from Florida where we were living and we were to sleep in my wife’s old room. Now I can tell you I never believed in ghosts or anything supernatural all my life but what happened this night changed me forever.
I seldom dream and I never have dreamt of my grandfather but this night I dreamed he came in through the door and walked to the end of the bed and just stood there. He didn’t say anything, he just stared. As I was dreaming this I was awoken by my wife screaming. The bed we were sleeping in was shaking violently. I don’t mean shaking a little. It was almost coming off the ground shaking. We ran out the room to the kitchen and she woke her mom who came to meet us. We were talking in the kitchen about what had happened when we heard a loud crash.
Some guys ran off the road and sideswiped the Oak in the front yard and smashed through the bedroom where we had been sleeping. This freaked me the f**k out and still does to this day. I have no doubt my grandfather saved us from beyond the grave.

Well damn. That's a cool story.

Same here.
FWIW, I check out nosleep every now and then for good stories, and most of them just aren't so I don't post anything here. If I ever stumble across a good one I will definitely bump this thread and post it here.
I did read the Portal in the Forest story the other day, and it was pretty meh. And that was the first one of the Multiverse series, so I was pretty disappointed in it and am not sure if I will continue with it (but maybe if I have free time).

i didn't care for the portal in the forest ones (meaning the posts under 1.1.1), but enjoyed the shite out of everything else in 1.1.
the first one i came across was the Fountain of Youth, and starting there was fine. highly recommend that one, even as a standalone series. i think most of the parts under 1.1 are good on their own, but the tie-ins between them make it more cohesive. but many of this guy's series are enjoyable even if you don't follow the whole big thing.

My buddy yells back “I have a hatchet motherfricker!” There’s no answer just silence, the girl in the middle started crying at this point.
Wonder what the reaction would have been if he'd have yelled "I've got a Colt 1911 with a half a dozen magazines, Motherfricker."?

Thanks, that’s good to know. I may give that one a shot. The Portal one is okay I guess, but for such a long story with so many parts, I felt like it just for kinda ridiculous by the end.
With those stories from nosleep, I always copy/paste them into word to make it easier to read. And the Portal one was like 100 pages.

Nope. Just fricking no.

I don't know if it's in this thread but someone had a really good one about he and a friend or family member going to an abandoned church or something like that.

I'm not sure if y'all are familiar with the ghost of Guste Island. My brother and I were going to night fish at our property that my family bought a year previous and while heading to the back we randomly drove past this woman walking on side of the road. We were in mid conversation and drove past her before immediately thinking something was off. It was 9-10 O'clock at night and the woman was walking like she was very sore or had a lazy looking slow limp. My brother said something is off and began to back up towards where we saw her. When we got on side of her we actually rolled down the window and my brother asked if she was ok. Well she happened to be on the very edge of the road and was on my passenger side. When he asked if she was ok she stopped and immediately looked at us and then continued her limp walk. The 2 things that stood out to me was that she was wearing a white dress/ sun dress. The dress was dirty and the woman also looked dirty/ possibly bruised. The 2nd thing I noticed was that the brief second she made eye contact I simply saw black. It looked like she had black eye pockets with nothing in them. I even told my brother as we drove past her for the 2nd time. Well again he said no something's not right and by the time we looked back the woman was gone. If you've ever been to guste island in the past you'd know there's nothing but swamp on side of those roads.
So I tell all of my friends for a few months, my older brother tells his friends and then all of the sudden one of his friends shared a book at a party about the most haunted places in Louisiana. Guess what made it on the list? The silk lady of Guste Island.. When my brother told me we were both a little sketched out. I've always been interested in the belief of ghosts but the chills I get still from thinking about the brief encounter and the actual way I saw her just blows my mind. We never bragged about seeing a ghost or even looked it up. We just told our friends about a strange encounter and then it was verified.
The crazy thing is that some of the stories told about her is that she's pulled cars off the road for not helping her. Apparently a couple drove past her and noticed she was injured and then claimed a skeleton hand ripped them into the marsh from the road. It could very well be fake but also very unsettling that this is what I saw and was my exact description/ recollection of the woman. Also makes me 10x more glad we went back and asked if she was ok.

Completely forgot about The Silk Lady stories. I live only a couple of miles from the Guste Island entrance, I hope she doesn’t wander too far from it.
