Hello. I received very helpful responses here, and not even the common wiseguy replies, so here I am again. I need a 30-foot mostly dead Magnolia tree taken down, and am hoping to not have to get a mortgage on my small home to afford it. Any tree service recommendations will be greatly appreciated. I see enormous trucks and cranes and all kinds of equipment and 20-guy crews in my neighborhood all the time, but that's not in the budget, so. Many thanks. I hope you all have a great week. Go Tigers!

You should take this to the Home & Garden Board. Helpful bunch over there.

Is there a community forum, like in Facebook, where you can ask for recommended tree services?

Is there anything within a 30 foot vicinity that could be damaged?

If it's mostly dead just wait for the next hurricane and let Mother Nature do the work.

If you’re in BR Borskey Tree Service took 2 Bradford Pears down for me last fall
600.00 just to take them down, it’s a lot more for them to haul them off

Get a pole saw and a ladder. If it’s mostly dead, those branches aren’t going to destroy anything. Get a chainsaw and a heavy duty rope and a partner to get the rest down. I recently took about a 30-footer down at my house this way in about an hour.

Magnolias are one of the easiest trees to climb on planet Earth.

Too many unknown variables to give you an estimate.

Can the tree just be felled?

Does it have to be climbed?

Is there anything underneath it - fences, houses, garages, sidewalks, irrigation, power lines, etc.?

You should probably start with asking them for the price.

If it is in front of your house and away from utilities, you will get a much lower price than if it's somewhere where they cannot get their equipment and it's close to houses, sheds, fences...

Also, if you are looking to save money, have them quote you to take down the tree, but leave the stump. I've had trees where the cost to remove the stump was just as much as the cost to remove the tree.

Damn, that’s highway robbery.

We charge $6 per inch.

20” stump would be $120, no matter where it is in the yard or what utilities are near it.

Paging the Hurricane Ida board. If I remember correctly, someone wanted and oak tree removed. Hurricane Ida left one poster disappointed.

Meanwhile, I had a Oak fall on my house for Ida. Tree split in 3. Had a pile of branches as a front yard for a month and half until the parish came to remove it.

Garcia Tree Experts LLC just took down my 40’+ tall Magnolia tree for $1200.
That included hauling everything off and grinding the stump. They did a great job!
