Please note that only 1 of the "Open" states are on the list.

Together, New York, Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania and New Jersey accounted for 44% of all new infections between March 29 and April 4 with about 197,500 cases out of around 452,000 seen nationwide, data from John Hopkins University show.

New York, which recorded 52,922 cases last week, or an average of about 7,560 a day, accounted for about 12 percent of the nation’s total cases.

Just behind the Empire State was Michigan, which has been grappling with a surge of new infections and recorded 47,036 new positives over the last week, or an average of about 6,719 each day — nearly double what it was two weeks ago, data show.

Florida logged 37,927 cases, while Pennsylvania and New Jersey saw around 29,847 and 29,753 new infections, respectively.

The real news here is the case numbers are way down nationwide.

Florida is open, but 4 out of the 5 is enough to still make the point

Remember last year when they told us how much better countries in Europe were doing than us because of their strict lockdowns? Now we appear to be doing much better.

There appears to be a common theme.

Yeah a buddy of mine owns a bar on the beach in FL and they've been wide open no masks for a while now with no issues

Meanwhile in the south, north-easterners are traveling to Florida in droves due to high taxes and summer season. Hack

Go look at the actual numbers. The graphs of née cases look the worst in Michigan and Pennsylvania. I didn’t look at New Jersey but Florida is relatively flat while Michigan and Pennsylvania have clear surges. Also Texas continues to decline. New York had a surge but it’s broken some unlike Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Interesting that Florida is the one open state but the others are closed Northern states that are known for traveling to Florida

I saw this morning where New Orleans has a 1% infection rate. Not death rate, not hospitalizations. Infection rate. The city rep for Destroya was asked when New Orleans was going to start allowing bars to stay open later and loosen other restrictions and he said when the vaccination rate increases.

How fricking stupid. This is the new benchmark apparently?!

Let's continue to destroy the local economy and the livelihoods of business owners because 1% of the population is getting infected with a virus. I can't even wrap my hear around this abject ignorance.

why does this matter? Florida quickly vaccinated their 65+ population and those susceptible to the virus. Florida statistically is the oldest state in the Union.

Meaning, the folks who are getting COVID-19 are likely less than 35 years old and might kill 1 in every million who catch it. Big fricking deal.

Trust me, I am in no way criticizing Florida.

But the OP was emphasizing the point, so...

I think per capita, Florida's rate is actually more like 15th or 20th.
