No storms. Everything just went down before 6AM. Power company trying to figure it out. May take up to 48 hours to restore service.

Curious how this unfolds. They should be dual fed and not at a single point of failure on an underground feeder. I’d guess this fault failed to trip a breaker and took a big generator off, then the rest of the grid couldn’t handle so further generators began to trip causing a bad cycle.

This almost happened to Texas during their last snowpocalypse. Same for the east coast, just on a much much bigger scale. Our grid is a hell of a lot more fragile than people think and the fact we arent doing more to harden it (which has been getting called for since at least the early 90's) will come back to bite this country in the arse harder than anyone is ready for. Can you imagine the northeast of the country without power for 2 weeks or a month? fricking armageddon.

Their grid was designed and maintained by corrupt idiots. Even Quanta taking it over hasn’t done shite. The biggest issue is the main double line to San Juan runs from Ponce over a mountain into SJ. It’s just shitty planning and design. I was there after Maria and we lost power all the time and it hasn’t gotten much better. There’s a reason so many people have solar and batteries there.

Customers don’t want to up their bill by 20-30% to build additional generation that rarely gets used. Understandable, but yes there is potential for huge consequences.

Absolute garbage place and garbage people. Would love for the US to invade it. Have a feeling we might.

Do they have some sort of musical artist like Akon to make all that happen?
