As a drummer, he's really good. Mike Portnoy gets my vote, but he was heavily influenced by Peart. It's crazy because he recently posted on Instagram that he'd love the opportunity to play for Rush. I wonder if he was aware of Pearts condition and the severity.

Ehhhhhh Moon was good but there are lots that were better even during his lifetime.Peart was kind of in a class by himself because of how technical he was, Stewart Copeland was also in that class but Peart was far and away better. He was the master of irregular beat.

This news solidifies that Carter Beauford is the greatest living drummer.

Damn. That sucks. His wife and daughter died in a car accident about 18 years ago. This must be why they called it quits a couple of years ago.

John Bonham, Keith Moon, and Ginger Baker have something to say about that. Definitely top 5 though.

The afterlife is building up some insanely good rock festival lineups.

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.
The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.
There is trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream, "Oppression"
And the oaks just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
They say, "The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

Also really good, but he's not the best. Sorry for your lost.

People focus on the drumming, but he was an incredible lyricist. His lyrics inspired a lot of rebellious kids in the 70s and early 80s.

He also abhorred those who worshipped public figures and made their private lives unbearable. I share that sentiment.

He was an excellent drummer. He wrote Ghost Rider - he rode motorcycles all over the place, even in place of the bus while they were on tour. The book covers his musings after the death of his daughter and girlfriend - a real search-for-the-meaning of life thing - while he was riding.
