What a fricking dumbass. This is like those kids that play baseball, that go up to bat without their batting helmet, or baseball bat. Like bro, this is obviously not for you.

We’re pretty much splitting hairs here.

It’s basically an AR-15 with a possible full auto sear

Not basically, it IS an AR-15. Having an auto sear doesn't preclude it from being an AR-15. The M16 is just the military designation for the AR-15 rifle it adopted.

Of all the media stupidity in gun IDing over the years, calling them out over calling an AR-pattern rifle an AR-15 is silly.

Maybe, but it's less gay than making fun of a journalist for actually correctly describing something (even if accidentally).

Aside from the obvious, leaving your firearm muzzle down on a dirty bathroom floor is the complete opposite of how you properly rest it.

Whoever did this has little to no firearms training.

Sorry, baws. I had a few to many double Beams after mass. Then the dogs of Barkus distracted me.

It won't happen again.

just in case you are being serious or people don't mistake your sarcasm, that is not the correct answer. It stands for Armalite Rifle for the company that designed it.

Nah, was just referring to an interview where someone asked Geraldo if he knew what "AR" stood for. He confidently answered "yes, automatic rifle".

He was quickly corrected and looked like the dumbass he is.

There can be several significant differences depending on the specific rifle, but only one significant difference has to exist. It might be sloppy terminology, but it’s still accurate to call an M4 an AR-15. The M4 is built on the same pattern and shares the same core architecture, so someone using that designation isn’t technically wrong, even if I wouldn't personally use it.

This was EXACTLY where my brain went when I saw this story on NOLA.com because I would have been the guy to grab the rifle and go looking for someone in uniform. I could imagine drunk me getting blazed down by NOPD and Troop NOLA while I was trying to do the right thing. The real question is whether the media would have buried the "where did he get that rifle from?" part of the story or just gone with "heroes stop mass shooter before he could kill" story?

I need to call my brother. I'm not saying he did this but he did manage to fall out of a guard tower in Afghanistan about 20 years ago.
