Artemis II was supposed to have taken place later this year. The delay of Artemis II now pushes back the date of Artemis III.
quote:

NASA announced Tuesday updates to its Artemis campaign that will establish the foundation for long-term scientific exploration at the Moon, land the first woman and first person of color on the lunar surface, and prepare for human expeditions to Mars for the benefit of all. To safely carry out these missions, agency leaders are adjusting the schedules for Artemis II and Artemis III to allow teams to work through challenges associated with first-time developments, operations, and integration.

NASA will now target September 2025 for Artemis II, the first crewed Artemis mission around the Moon, and September 2026 for Artemis III, which is planned to land the first astronauts near the lunar South Pole. Artemis IV, the first mission to the Gateway lunar space station, remains on track for 2028.

So are they going to start the setup for a moon base or are they just going to look around?

Would be pretty cool to one day see a settlement on the moon using an amateur telescope.

EDIT: guess I should have read the link in the summary. My bad.

How long does it take to set up a Hollywood sound stage with moon props and actors?

SpaceX keeps facing regulatory hurdles from just about every three letter agency in the country. Meanwhile, China and India orbit by with their dicks hanging out.

This is just the delay from the writers strike.

It'll be 2030 before this actually happens.

Considering you have people on the Left pushing to nationalize SpaceX, I'd be surprised if anything happens before 2030.

Probably, if at all. NASA is beholden to political winds, so you can't know what another President is going to do.

I think Artemis goes forward though no matter what.

Is it because one of their astronauts is implicated in a murder?

Sorry...but I can't help but laugh.

I no longer am at NASA and am glad I'm not. SLS is a horribly managed vehicle with so much potential but between Biden/Nelson and their cronies, they have destroyed a potentially great program. Not to mention letting Boeing manage it from their standpoint. Boeing was so far over budget on both SLS and ISS it's not even funny.

I'm curious how much the issues the Vulcan Centaur/Peregrine yesterday played into this delay announcement.

What about the first l, g, b? Male, female, and other? First t? Why are we leaving all of these protected classes out? How do I sue to prevent this from happening unless it includes all disenfranchised groups?

None. The Vulcan won't be involved in the Artemis program. The FAA needs to just grant SpaceX carte blanch when it comes to launching rockets though. That would help the most. Basically what I'm saying is that SpaceX should be above the law.

If they were the most qualified person they shouldn’t have to even announce this. I don’t wish no ill will on them but the only way to stop sending people based on gender or color of their skin is for something bad to happen that would cost millions because they didn’t send the most qualified people

SLS is already an obsolete piece of equipment. The only reason we're even using it is because of sunk costs at the this point.

Zero. Vulcan uses methane as a prop vs SLS which uses hydrogen/oxygen.
