Christmas songs suck because the subject matter is limited. Same reason why Christian rock sucks.
The best Christmas songs are the songs that sound like the famous bands that perform them.
Songs like Step into Christmas by Elton John or Little St Nick by The Beach Boys. Because they sound like a regular old Elton John or Beach Boys song.
