North Carolina is nice and has a little of everything... but nothing that's really 'great'

I live in the Asheville, NC area and I agree with that 100%. Best beaches? FL panhandle. Best mountains? Colorado or Montana. Best saltwater fishing? LA. Best fly fishing? Montana/Idaho. BUT, NC has access to all of those thing so it averages out to be pretty great.

If you MUST live on the east coast/southeast it is really good. Every time I come back from LA or the gulf coast it is remarkable how pretty it is and the quality of life is pretty good although the yankees are quickly fricking that up.

I like NC. I think Rocky Mountain states are better overall though.

There’s about 3+ I’d put in front of NC starting with South Carolina.

NC natives always like to look down on SC and think they’re superior but all they really have is Charlotte which doesn’t hold a candle to Charleston and Asheville is just a hipster Greenville with higher elevation.

Raleigh is a lot better than Columbia, though. I’ll give them that.

Correction: Greenville is just a tech-dork Asheville with lower elevation.

NC and SC are different worlds imo. Go 15 miles away from the coast and the vast majority of SC looks more like AL and MS than NC. Culturally SC is far more conservative and Deep South than anywhere in NC.

I cannot. Still, North Carolina does not have a city even half as great as New Orleans. It is a beautiful state, but it is lacking a great city.

Charlotte beats NOLA in every way imaginable except for culture and tourism.

By south you must mean South Dakota. Much better than those Yankees in North Dakota. Black Hills, walleye fishing, pheasant/duck/goose/deer hunting. You don’t bother your neighbor they don’t bother you. Only drawbacks are the snow/wind and lack of spice in the food.
