I remember as a kid I used to watch these shows but I only knew about pop/rap/rock groups. She one a bunch of shite and I was like who is this old lady. This must have been around 1990.

Your headline doesn't match the article.

She is known to most people in the US, but it's not a stretch to think that people in the UK don't know her, but do know the people she beat out for the award.

You are reaching for clicks this morning bro

I think the article's headline was aimed at the dumb Gen Zers who were probably flooding twitter & FB with "So who is this Bonnie Raitt?"

Clearly, the author knew who Raitt was as her awards/bio was listed in the article.

Unknown Blues singer Bonnie Raitt wins Song of the Year at Grammys

Did you read the article?

It has nothing to do with her being an unkown. It just suprised a lot of people, including Raitt, that she won.

"The victorious evening brought Raitt's total number of Grammys won to 13 over 30 all-time nominations."

"Her first Grammy nomination came at the 22nd annual Grammy Awards in 1979 for her Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female for her song You're Gonna Get What's Coming (Track).

Raitt had breakout success with her 1989 album Nick Of Time, which included singles including the title track, Thing Called Love, Have a Heart."

Muddy Waters gave her lessons on how to play the slide guitar. Pretty good bona fides.

I was introduced to Little Feat by way of Bonnie Raitt. They were the opening act for Bonnie when she was touring in ‘74/‘75. I was blown away at how good they were. They were then Bonnie’s band for her set. Helluva show.

Angel From Montgomery, and John Prine wrote it and kind of handed it off to her. There are some great recordings of live duets from the two of them doing that one.

Nowhere in the article does it say she is unknown. It does say she was a surprise winner and references the fact several times that it's her 13th Grammy and she's been nominated for 30 over her career.

Way to make something out of nothing OP.

One time Paul McCartney performed at the Grammys, I think it was, and most of the internet didn’t know who he was.

I think that may have been when the youngsters on Twitter were giving kudos to Kanye for giving “this old guy a shot at his dreams.”

OP you are such a dumbass.
quote:

So glad the Daily Mail has seemingly never heard of this unknown 73 year old
The author of this article wrote about the American Honors & Awards back in 2021, and in that article he called Bonnie Raitt "iconic".
quote:

The annual event has attracted a number of iconic performers such as Robert Plant and Bonnie Raitt over the years
So this guy clearly knows who she is, which means the headline is obviously for their target audience - likely young British people. He then goes on to describe her career, at length, for that target audience.
quote:

and has labeled her as a blues singer.
Seems they know more than you.
