Did you leave your pet, child and gun in the car too with the windows rolled up?

In 2017, there were 250 reported crimes in Lakeview. 97.2% of those crimes were property crimes, such as auto burglary and auto theft.

Of the 115 auto burglaries in 2017, 94% of the vehicles were unlocked.

Of the 52 auto thefts in 2017, 49 of those were stolen with the keys inside the vehicle.

Per my next door app, there was a white Range Rover stolen on Laural and Webster yesterday afternoon.

For all the downvotes and the “You’re an idiot” posts, I understand. It is/was idiotic to leave my keys in my truck at 10 in the morning.
I live in a small town where it is normal to leave your car running in the grocery store parking lot.
The reason I say that New Orleans is a shithole is that nothing is being done to help with the situation of high crime. And it’s not the cops. They have their hands tied. The officer told me yesterday that the city of New Orleans has the most lacksed punishment for criminals in the country. He said that most of the criminals are the same group of juveniles between the age of 14-18. If they catch them in the act, the longest they stay in jail is a month and then they are right back to doing the same thing. He sees it all the time.

Im not that upset that my truck got stollen. I’m really not. I took a dumb chance leaving my keys in there. I’m upset because bad policies created by bad politicians has created an environment that’s conducive to criminals. It’s pisses me off for the people of New Orleans and our state.

Here is one thing that can be done. Turn your car off and lock your doors. This makes the act of driving around the area and casing cars/houses looking for theft opportunity less appealing. You don't live Lakeview, but you just emboldened these criminals to come back to the area I live in to look for more soft target opportunities.

Thanks for personally making my neighborhood a more targeted area for criminal activity.

The rear view mirror in my truck was knocked off. I suspect they were trying to get rid of the on star- not knowing that the antenna is on top of the truck.

I understand what you are saying, but, there were 6 burglaries by the same people driving the same white Dodge Charger in lakeview from Sunday to Monday. 6. And the officer said that they’ve caught them in the act, but as soon as they get into a “high speed” situation, the cop must slow down and quit following.
We saw them on camera strolling by each vehicle with there hand out the window checking for unlocked cars.

Oh cut the bullshite. Was it stupid to leave his keys in the truck? Sure it was, but it doesnt mean that the CRIMINAL in this situation isnt to blame. Thats the problem with society these days. No one wants to hold the criminal accountable. Thats like saying that when thieves steal a baitcar its nit really their fault bc the car was left unlocked.

I'm sorry man- you don't deserve the platform to bash the city when you're this naive.

Easy for you to say. I live in Lakeview. Each year has gotten worse for this type of activity. If everyone took their pistol out of the console, didn't leave valuables in their car, and double checked to lock their car doors before going inside these criminals would search out easier targets elsewhere. Residents of Lakeview pay more tax to hire additional patrol units for the area. NOPD is fairly inept, but its the ones leaving easy targets on the side of the street that increase criminal activity in the area.

Criminal is absolutely to blame. But if this ding dong, and others like him, didn't leave their keys in car/car doors unlocked/guns in cars then these criminals would be searching other neighborhoods.

I'm all for bait cars. I cant do anything about criminals in New Orleans. No one can, surely not an understaffed and underpaid NOPD. I can however make sure my car and house are locked to make my neighborhood less of a snack on a silver platter.

This is some bullshite right here. He made a stupid decision to leave his keys in his truck, but don't blame him for someone else stealing his fricking car.

The criminals here did all of the immoral things. They are solely to blame for the crime being committed. Period.

Im blaming him, and others like him, for the reason the criminals keep coming back.
