I bet you that 95% of the people in this post criticizing the boomers are liberals/progressives.
Also, the generation of “don’t you dare take away my welfare (Social Security)” has no room calling anyone progressive.

Maybe the generation of personal responsibility should take some responsibility.
For what? What did people in their 70s and 80s, collectively, do to you that you demand they take responsibility? Stop bitching and being concerned with other people. Worry about yourself and your family, and things will be better. I promise.

Everyone hates the boomers.

40% of boomers have zero savings.
50% have less than $250,000 in retirement.
So, no, they did not mostly work hard, save, and retire with enough to support themselves.
It's good to be a boomer. I bring those percentages way up, so suck on it bitches!

I am a Boomer (1963). Raised 3 daughters to become productive members of society who could each survive financially should something go wrong with their marriages (I love my sons-in-law very much so I don’t want that to happen).
I have 4 amazing granddaughters who are my world. Stage IV tonsil cancer put me on the disabled list in 2018, but I am still kicking.
My wife and I saved a great deal and did without to give our girls a good life growing up. We retired to Lake Logan Martin in 2023. We still live as frugal as possible, but we do what we enjoy - boat rides, playing in the lake, watching sunsets and moon rises from the boat and hosting our kids and their families.
Ultimately, my give a damn is all busted regarding those who want to criticize me, my lifestyle or my life choices. I have a Gen X, a Millennial and a Gen Z daughter and all three are pretty grounded and know the value of hard work.

it's hard not to criticize people who let Fox and CNN dictate how they feel about the world.

My parent’s families and grandparents were poorer than they were growing up. He gave us a better lifestyle financially than he had. My wife and I both worked, had higher paying jobs, and gave an even better financial lifestyle to our kids.
Every generation in the US improved their standard of living over their parents generation up until the Millenials... this is where the condescending opinions of the preceding generations took root. Even through the tumultuous 60's and 70's this was not the case.
Now we have the Gen Z's that will need nannies as they grow old...

You are missing the sledgehammer that is in your face on the baby boomers. The Boomers start in 1946, so the leading edge is pushing 80. A good many of them have just retired. They are living too long and also consuming at a pretty stout clip. Previous generations like the WWII generation were in a significant die off by the time most of them were pushing 80.
The boomers came of age during an unbelievable explosion in quality of life advancements and educational opportunity. They start entering the workforce around 1968 -70 and start hitting their stride by 1984 -1990. Healthier lifestyles, greater economic opportunity that does not entail backbreaking work and relative peace.....and there are a lot of them.
From a generational standpoint they have lived too long and are outlining their parents as a group by at least 10-22 years at a minimum so it's harder for the next generations to get traction and their stride is delayed. So if the boomers were hitting their peak financial stride at 42 which would have been 1988, Generation X is going to start hitting about now as they start into their mid 50s . I'm talking as a group.
Think about it, Jagger,Richards and Wood are still pumping out relative music and doing shows at 80 when their parents as a group were entering nursing homes at the same age.

For a good chunk of my adult life (I'm in my 40s), Boomers have been the majority of not only my state legislature but as well as US Congress. They absolutely make decisions all of the time with this "Boomer" mentality of pulling up the ladder behind them.
You're being purposefully obtuse to act like it doesn't affect us in our daily lives.

It is amazing how shortsighted some of you are.
The support for raiding retirement is growing because we now live in a world where a growing number of individuals have no money to put into a 401k, therefore they won’t care if they are raided.
There are socioeconomic and political ramifications to blowing off the younger generations concerns, but it is apparent that the boomer generation gives zero fricks about that or they are too stupid to comprehend it.

If enough people vote to raid the boomers' retirement, the boomers should just work harder and focus on themselves

My thoughts on why there are so few single earner households is that it's not seen as "normal". My daughter and son in law both grew up in single earner homes, so it wasn't strange or scary for them to do the same.
I'd need to be making 200-300k to feel comfortable with a single income

Wrong. I never wanted to pay into SS to begin with but was forced to by the Government for over 30 years. So you can bet your Scuffy arse that I expect to use it. I earned the right to use it.
Of course, I wasn’t so stupid as to count on or rely on SS to live. We use investments for that. SS just helps put gas in the boat.
