By him a Trek Marlin 5 or 6 and he'll thank you later. A good mountain/trail bike go for $800 or so; a good E bike will be in the thousands.

Kid in my neighborhood got smoked on one yesterday blowing through a stop sign. Thankfully shes fine. She's extremely fortunate, but I expect laws coming soon on these things. Kids are completely out of control on them and their complete disregard for basic traffic laws is going to get more than a couple killed.

one of these little bastards almost ran over my 3 year old playing on the sidewalk in front of our house. Needless to say that would’ve been the last time he was physically capable of riding his e-bike.

get your son a regular bike, it’s good exercise!

This weekend in Old Mandeville, I saw a kid blow through a four way stop at about 15 mph. There were cars at the stop signs. He was sitting up, no hands on handlebars and texting on his phone. I was impressed at the zero fricks given.

I have ridden an EBike on one occasion. It was through the vineyards of Bordeaux France. Fun.

frick all that. Kids need real bikes for exercise, that’s more like a motorcycle for a child.

All you old grouchy assholes with the same responses

My son is outdoors plenty, rides his regular bike all the time, does wrestling, football, baseball, and keeps a 3.5 gpa.. yall are probably the same assholes crying about kids being inside and playing games all the time. If this thread ain’t for you, you coulda just stayed out of it. My intentions were clear from the title..

Whatever you decide, tell him to keep his arse out of the road and make him wear a helmet. It has gotten way too common for me to have to dodge stupid kids on real roads riding what amounts to a motorcycle. These aren't bicycles, and they shouldn't be treated as bicycles. Tell him to keep his arse out of the road because I don't want it on my conscience if one of these little shits darts out in front of me without a care in the world.

Just that happened a few miles from me just last week. They had to bring in med flight to take the kid to the ER.

His legs will atrophy and fall off. Tell him to pedal a real bike and don’t be a pussy.

MFer do yall think everyone lives in the middle of a busy metro area?? We are out in the country where he has places to ride. And even if we weren’t, I appreciate the concern but my boys were raised right and know how to handle themselves on the road and out in public.

So can you get an e-bike that lets you completely turn off the power so that it functions as a regular bike, and turn on the assist part only when wanted, or is it always going to assist to some degree? I don’t know much about them but if you can completely turn the power part off and on as needed, that would be ideal.

We used to tape the joker card to our bikes when we were kids so it sounded like a dirt bike.

So are you suggesting they ride on the sidewalk instead?

I have 2E bikes. the first one I bought for my son when he was 14 and the other I bought for me. Both are used for hunting. they make E bikes for a variety of activities. The first thing you need to do is determine what type of E bike you want to buy. Is it a motorcycle? Is it a dirtbike? Is it something you ride around the neighbourhood in? is it an off-road hunting bike to carry your gear? once you understand what the purpose of your bike is then we can start narrowing down your options and brands.
