I'm in N.O. and if you put out any appliance or broken mower, lawn equipment, etc. it is usually gone in an hour or less. There's scrap guys running around the city picking up stuff like this all day long.
In my area if you put out something like a sofa, mattress, etc., it is picked up on a Saturday but not on the other pickup day, which is Wednesday.
ETA: Oh, and it helps that when I'm home and hear them coming down the street, I make sure to give them some bottles of cold water to stay hydrated, especially in the summer months. A little kindness goes a long way.

Doubt it. Years ago I put a mattress out by the curb... a mattress that dogs had been sleeping on. Within a couple of hours some guy in a truck stopped and loaded it up.
People are weird.

They certainly are. No way in hell I'm picking up any type bedding from a curb, or anything else for that matter with the exception of an old mower that had a good body that matched my mower that had a rusted out body. Swapped out the motors and was good as new.
Same with yard sales. I've seen people buy other people's underwear/socks/shoes, etc. Not gonna happen with me.

I’m not sure I get what’s trashy about this? Will they not pick it up?

They will pick it up but likely only one day a week, usually Friday or Saturday in my area.
The alternative is to bring it to a dump and the one in N.O. East off Almonaster Blvd. charges something like $15 per mattress or box spring to dump.
Trashy is when you put it in the back of your truck and drive out of your neighborhood and dump it on a neutral ground or side of the road somewhere.

Mattresses are tough, if you put em out early they may get wet. Then no one will pick up.
Best to put out early on Sunday morning, so not wet with dew and all the neighbors like Slippy get to see em on the way to church. Gets everyone up and at em.

If it's sitting out there for more than one trash run because the neighbor didn't follow the procedures to have it picked up? Sure.
But for the one or two days between runs? frick off.

If it's garbage day in his neighborhood in JP it will be picked up today. Pretty sure if you have to haul it yourself to a dump you live in a dump parish.

Apparently today is the day they pick that stuff up. So the neighbor is doing the right thing.
Another alternative (at least here in Houston) is donating and having someone pick it up. I forgot who I used but I found them on google rather easily. Set a time online and they came to my house and hauled it way. Super easy and free.

Not trashy at all when your taxes pay for it, they come by about every 5 days for heavy duty stuff. I’m not hauling anything heavy to a dump and pay for disposal when I can drag to It my street in my nice neighborhood and get it picked up for free. F all the judgers
