Geez 17 pages. Somebody answer two questions for me:

1. Is MIL willing to accept responsibility and pay for her mistake?

2. Has it come to light yet that the wife just wanted to max out a credit card and threw her mom under the bus?

1. She claims she will, but probably doesn't have the means since she has a gambling problem. Most suspect when she ran out of her own resources, she resorted to stealing from the daughter by opening the credit card and running up a big tab in the teen thousands.

2. There is nothing to suggest this at all. Wife and OP did not know about the card until they were looking to move.

We need way more details and OP activity if you’re gonna post on the OT about this.

If it's some random dude in Russia or Nigeria, sure. But not if it's a close relative. They are not going to accept a parent/child allegation of fraud. The opportunity for collusion is just too great and they would get scammed left and right if they let people off the hook that easily.

What are you talking about

Thats years in prison if fully prosecuted

Not exactly a common scam

Its exactly what I would do. Swear up and down to the CC company that shite isnt mine and make the do what is federal required to give me my money back.

Whatever problem they have with her they can deal with. My guess they will dump it to something that will give her a felony record and she will do meh who cares time and then they will have the rights to anything she owns.

Good.

Do it.

This is the same type of person that opens up accounts at membership type places and bounces on the check. Or every doctor she ever went to she never paid the bill.

Imagine how many people she will continue to frick over if not sent over the edge.

Send her to prison because none of the people she fricked over before had the chance on a skipped bill.

If you think it doesn’t matter whether 50 or 50000 you’ve got issues. The cost matters absolutely. It’s her mom work it out.

people pay huge money all the time to help out family members the best way they know how.

That’s not “helping family”. In this case that would be willingly giving money to a lying, addicted thief.

Zero chance in hell I’d contribute one dollar.

How does someone go through life without some sort of credit theift??? Like if my mother did this to me i would get 900 emails the second she tried to open an account. Good job being an idiot. Call the fricking police or continue on being a dumbass.

exactly

This person stole from her grandkids. Stole money that could be used for college, camps. She may have a problem. But I don’t care. It would be one thing if she came to me for help. But to steal? No. No. No

Who expects to be reimbursed by their kids for raising them? In this case, honoring the parent would be to resist enabling her.

An addict. No excuse and not any better, but that is why. It just means you put safeguards in place and keep at arms distance until small amounts of trust are regained. It may never happen. Or have her watch Casino, that didn't work out for anyone.

I’d help her pay it off and say the next time anything happens that you’d be reporting it to police

Sounds like there are some underlying issues that need to be addressed. Does she have a spending problem? Any mental health issues? That’s pretty twisted to do to your own kid

I'm sorry sir, this sort of rational advice--at least sans a random anal sex suggestion and/or request for pics of same--is not welcome here, sir. This is a Wendy's.

This is good, if you think about it almost all the difficult female dilemmas brought to the OT can be resolved by anal. It’s the great equalizer.

The players in the other major threads of the last month (lost dog, Scarletto with Coastal Bridge) could have resolved their issues with anal sex.
