I moved out the Summer after my HS graduation and never spent a single night at home again. My daughter on the other hand , recently informed me that she’d rather live at home than in the dorm at LSU .

Kids imho are just much younger emotionally than we were . I think that our generation, which was an under- parented generation overcompensated by over- parenting. And we now have a generation that can’t cut the cord as easily as we did.

Ya, I don't think anyone "grown up" wants to live with their parents. I promise if there was a choice, living on your own would get chosen 9/10. But if the option is there the responsible choice sometimes is to grit your teeth and live at home until you can get a stable foundation set to get your own place.

I have a friend that lives with his parents and they charge him 400 bucks a month

My parents did this with my sister

She was awful with money and tried to move out on her own, but eventually came crawling back home because she couldn't manage her own money

So my parents charged her rent, but kept it all and saved it for her and gave it back to her after she moved out again

They didn't tell her they were saving it for her

Housing, specifically, is much more expensive. Housing (both rental and ownership) costs have gone up while salaries have remained stagnant.

As someone who went through this on my own. I could afford buying a house. My friends who love to have every gadget, new fashion clothes, video game, concert ticket, football ticket, vacation, etc cannot afford a house.

I'm in my 20's and know a small handful of people who choose to do this... and I lost all respect for them. grow the frick up and live your own life... will never understand it.

Why? My parents are cool with me doing whatever I want (as in staying out late and shite), and thrir house has plenty of room we would never really have to see each other if we don't want to. I don't live in the same place, but if I did and lived there for a year I would have enough money saved to be in a place financially that would take 3 or 4 years were I not living there.

I dont know why that would rustle your jimmies so bad when you'd come in here and bitch about people not saving enough money.

In my mid 30s, moved out at 19. Looking back that was retarded, I could have saved so much money and at 19 still pretty much lived as I pleased. I wish I would have stayed there till 21 or 22 and saved up half my paycheck over that time.

Or maybe she doesn't want to share a 10x10 room with someone else for $8,000

I moved home for about 6 months after graduating college and had a job. My parents charged me room and board. Like I said, 6 months.

Millennials were breastfed for years instead of months. They buy socks that cost more than the shoes they wear. They have mommy issues and need money.

Exactly. Nothing says I love you more than making sure they get on public assistance.

In early 2000s I first moved out and moved in with roommates in a house, rent was $150 a month and utilities split 3 ways. Then I moved into an apartment at $250 a month. I drove by same complex about a year ago, no changes, run down even more, I called out of curiosity and for a 1 room it is now $575 a month. Yea frick that

The economy is complete shite. I've never done it but I can't say that I blame those who do. Friend of my was able to save enough money to buy her own house because she lived with her mom for a lot of her twenties.

I actually respect that she did that instead of throwing her money away on rent. She's now a home owner and would probably still be renting if she would've moved out.

Unless they are receiving a push from you to get the frick out, there's no incentive for them to leave.

If you've coddled them all along, they're not gonna wake up one day and all of sudden have the mentality to be self-sufficient.

If they have zero debt, have college degrees, and jobs, then it seems like you've just provided so much for them that they have no desire to leave. In their mind, all's well.

If you have males, they're turning into useless men that probably don't know shite. If they're female....God help you. You've enabled more "princess, I want" attitude. Their future husbands will ultimately pay the price.

Basically, if you're waiting for them to step up and say, "Dad, I'm ready to move out.", that's never gonna happen. You have to set parameters and get them the frick out....that is, if you really want them. Hell, you may be perfectly fine with them staying with you.
