So you pay $10 up front and get a month? So if you dont' want to go anymore that's it, you don't have to "break" anything or pay some cancellation fee?
They also have about a $30 annual fee on top of the $10 a month, but they often have specials where the annual fee is reduced to just $1 or so. They insist on withdrawing the $10 from a checking account. That is the only way to pay (that I know they will allow), but you can cancel at any time.

A lot of the places insisted I pay by day, which was really expensive for one week. Planet Fitness gave me the week for 16 bucks. I'm not going to complain about that.
I haven't seen the pizza or donuts yet. I won't partake. If you knew me, you'd know I'm a nazi about my diet.

It's crazy that y'all don't hear the lunk alarm. I hear it at least twice a day and I'm only there for an hour and a half.
Posted on 6/18/15 at 8:56 am to SabiDojo
Actually I have heard it but it was when they were giving a new customer a tour and not for someone doing something not allowed.
Half of the stuff in this thread is completely made up. You have people saying that they will sound the alarm of kick you out for wearing a tank top?

I used to use barbells almost exclusively.
Yeah, there's no way I could workout without a barbell. I'd rather just do bodyweight stuff at home than not use a barbell. But for the casual lifter, $10/month aint bad.

I will probably go to the one by my house this evening and take a tour just to check it out. I know the general premise of teh place..but how scaled down is it? They have dumbbells, but no barbells? Do they have machines?
Posted on 6/18/15 at 9:01 am to WG_Dawg
Tons of machines. I'm not crazy about them, but they're not bad at all.
Posted on 6/18/15 at 9:03 am to WG_Dawg
Yes tons of machines. The one I go to has lots of hammer strength machines which even hardcore lifters tend to be fans of.

Bruh, that hammer machine is real cool

I won't ever partake, but what kind of pizza do they have?
Posted on 6/18/15 at 9:13 am to WG_Dawg
I don't know. I think they do it on Fridays. This is my first (and only) week.
The staff have been really nice, too. It may not be for you. Like I said, it's mostly older ladies in this one, so I understand how the "judgment free zone" is an attractive option.
Lots of guys in there are older and trying to get in shape and just look like they're having a good time. The way I see it, everyone has goals. Some want to be ripped, some want dad-bod, some want to lose Type 2 Diabetes, and some are there for heart health. Everyone wants something different. Who am I to tell someone their goals are not good enough? My experience at Planet Fitness has made me more open-minded.
Again, I'm not joining, but I'm not going to rag on it.

Is there a sign up fee or just $10 a month straight up?

$29 plus $10 a month right now.
My kid moved out of state and I had to cancel her membership, they didn't give me any grief.
They take $10 out of your checking account each month.

It's not a terrible place to workout. The only thing that frustrates me is there are no free Olympic bars to do clean and jerk with.

Grunting, dropping weights, walking in wearing certain attire, etc.
Sometimes the alarm goes off and I look around to see what for because I didn't really hear or see anything.

I don't think it really does.
