I usually work out at home or at the Y, but my father-in-law is ill so we are taking care of him for the week. He lives about 3 hours away from us. Of course, I didn't want to lose a week of pump, so I went around to see if local gyms would give me a week pass at a good price. None of them did, so I went to Planet Fitness. They are allowing me to work out for the week for a cheap price and they were helpful.

I admit I wasn't excited about it at first, but the place really surprised me. First off, it's the cleanest gym I've ever seen in my life. Everything is wiped down religiously and I can hardly smell that funky smell most gyms have. Bathrooms, showers, all pristine. I was floored.

The equipment was all very comfortable. I don't use machines, but I gave them a try. Not bad. I actually enjoyed the ab machines and I got a good workout on them.

The pullup bar was awesome. All the handles are at an angle so it really changed the difficulty of the moves and I really enjoyed it.

Yes, there are tootsie rolls on the counter. Yes, the lunk alarm is annoying and pretty sensitive. Yes, the average age of the person there is 55+. Yes, lots of the younger guys never work out their legs and rest 30 minutes in between reps. BUT, I've gotten great workouts. They may not have everything I want, but they have everything I need.

In short, I have been pleasantly surprised with the place. For the price, it's a great deal.

I know, downvotes incoming.

If they had an actual bench and squat rack and some heavier dumbbells it would be a good place.

It's really not that bad. If you do lots of Olympic lifts you are out of luck but otherwise you can get a great workout there.

Yeah, I think the heaviest dumbell they have is like 55.

I just use the utility benches and the dumbells. If you do the right moves, you don't need a ton of weight.
