We took him to vet Friday because it liked it was a cyst that had opened up. The vet did a biopsy and it came back cancerous.

Is surgery an option?

That’s what Butters’s cancer looked like. It looked like he was trying to grow another ball (he’s neutered) and then the “ball” popped. They were able to cut it all out though but the biopsy came back as being cancerous as well. And nothing has grown back and that was almost 2 years ago.

Ugh. I am so sorry to hear.

Lucy has a sudden huge lump on her upper lip/under her nose, and it looks exactly like what is coming up when I Google mast cell carcinoma. Goddamnit.

The vet said that would be the first step. Remove the tumor and the surrounding tissue. Then go through oncology.

We’re probably going to remove the unit and see what we’re looking at. We’ve noticed some pretty significant changes in his behavior lately. He sleeps A LOT. Even more than the usual pug. We’re going to see what the vet says and then make our decision.

Keep us updated. And hopefully they can just do the surgery and it has clean margins they can easily cut out.

I understand not wanting to do chemo. I wasn’t gonna pursue it if it was the next step for Butters. It’s such a hard decision to decide what’s best for your dog and not just what’s best for your heart. Hugs my friend.

Thanks everyone. We are just heartbroken. He’ll be getting lots of good food and lots of love. Tonight they both got rice and gravy with their dinner.

We had that type of tumor removed from a 9 year old lab in December. Recovery has gone well , so far. Good luck.

My dog had that too. They wanted to do chemo after but we just opted to have it removed. It's been 5 years since.

Just so you know Chemo does not affect dogs like it does humans. They actually tolerate it really well. But do what you and the vet feel is necessary.

Not sure if your vet told you or not but mast cells release histamine and that can cause swelling etc. locally. I would give them Benadryl to help with that before surgery

I had a pet that had to be put down last week and I'm overseas currently so when I left was the last time. I'm sorry you are gonna have to go through something similar with your dog getting cancer.

Is it still confined in a tumor or has it spread? One of my pups has had several pop up and we have them removed pronto. He had several, four I think, pop on his belly seemingly overnight and they were the size of a large marble.

We’re not sure yet. We have lots of questions for the vet tomorrow. After we talk to her, we’ll make decisions on how to move forward

My Husky had the same. Amputated his leg and he survived another 2 months. It’s very aggressive. Love them while you can.
