Some of y'all must know some really shitty teachers.
All of my coworkers hate NTI. It was a ton more work for them to adjust curriculum to online instruction and to have to ensure kids stayed engaged. They were also expected to be available in the evenings as well for differential instruction for students who couldn't access internet/computer during the day. I also had teachers in my building that physically drove around and taught kids from their porches, on their own dime.
But they also recognize majority of our substitutes are 65+ and/or immunocompromised. We also have immunocompromised kids in our schools, especially in our ECE departments with kids who are on medications for various conditions (i.e. we have an orthopedically impaired unit with several kids taking immune suppressing medication). And teachers who are parents caring for immunocompromised kids. They did a survey with teachers all over the state and something like 70% are either immunocompromised or care for an immunocompromised individual.
So it's a balance. And no different than anyone else whose company allowed them to work from home during this, so the "reduced pay" talk is a pretty big crock of shite. Our teachers still had to get kids ready for AP exams that weren't cancelled and the district used funding it saved from not having folks in the buildings to make sure all kids in the district had a computer to work from. That's not cheap by any means.

That’s not a bad idea. If you got enough kids you could even hire other people to help out. Maybe rent out a building. Split them up by age or ability. I could see that working.

Almost every profession has lazy people who will try and get by with the bare minimum, unfortunately that includes teachers. But I can assure you the majority of teachers DO NOT want to do virtual.
Most teachers have kids themselves, so those individuals have to do double of the very thing y’all are complaining about (teach classes and teach their own kids)
I’m a teacher who cannot teach my classes virtually. You need application and equipment. If we aren’t in the building full-time I will be very upset

Not if they have 3 kids and it's a split schedule and kids aren't on same schedule AND mom/dad work. THAT would be a nightmare. Paying for a sitter AND Catholic school? No way can most people do that.

Funny how the solution to schools are schools done right.
We pay taxes to fund public schools, pay to send kids to private school, and then pay someone privately to handle the tasks of a school.

That’s funny because the government has been doing your job all along. There are homeschool groups online (facebook, I think). Post on there and see if someone near you will add your kid to their troop for a fee. Assuming your 2nd grader isn’t a little punk like I was at that age (if she is, don’t bother).
She’ll get a better education than these goofy online public schools.
