My county’s DOT office won’t pick up litter before mowing along the roads

What is the point of mowing taller weeds and grass if you just shred and spread garbage around?
Shredded plastic in the environment effectively forever now.
I have visited the part of the 3rd world where the mower operators hail from. Garbage everywhere so it doesn’t even register for them as a problem.

If people didn't litter, if people didn't have stuff fly out of their pickups and if big trucks and garbage trucks would cover their loads, we wouldn't have this problem.

This is true, however the reality is they do it and the trash should be picked up before mowing.
As an aside, I was in Montana a few years ago and the lack of roadside litter was refreshing.

Ever since the local trash dump stopped taking electronics and furniture guess where all the tvs, couches and mattresses end up? On my land. I’ve tried calling the county and they claim they’ll send someone out to clean it up but they never do. So I take my tractor and loader and move it all to the middle of the highway. Mysteriously it gets gone by the end of the day.

As someone who has traveled all over the country, roadside trash seems to be a mainly Louisiana and Mississippi thing.

Self-help of this nature works. A local "let's feed the bums" group would give the bums "to go" food. Of course, they ate the food and tossed the napkins, plasticware, and styrofoam trash. It was creating a shite ton of trash. Went to the board of the group, got a big boo hoo hoo for the "homeless."
So, I bagged up the trash and tossed the bag in the Director's yard with a note. No more "to go" food ... had to eat it at the place.
The bums and junkies are a huge littering problem that mostly gets ignored.

Dude it took LADOTD until July before they started mowing their own right of way in my area. At that point the grass was so high that it was blocking sight triangles.

Good for you. I had a car in front of me littering and I did nothing for fear of becoming a viral video on X.
