Have you seen the cost of shite these days. For someone likely not making a ton 14% could be the difference in her stressing over making rent/house payment or not.
So in a way it is “life changing”

So you want EVERYONE to leave to go to another company for a 14% raise? You want to pay everyone below market value? This is a good way to lose everything.

Don’t blame her one but because that is usually what happens when you show loyalty to a business. You are undervalued and underpaid.
Good luck replacing this employee with someone competent in todays work force. You will probably end up paying a shitty employee that you have to train close to that 14%. So in the long run It will make that 14% meaningless when you spend 3 - 4 years going through 6-7 shitty employees.

14 percent is a significant figure. Get her a nice parting gift and thank her for her years of service.

Should have countered with 10% and PTO.
Posted on 2/22/23 at 4:38 pm to Slippy
Slippy aren't you about to retire?

The vast majority of companies have no loyalty to employees, so why should they have loyalty to anyone but themselves.

Me too.
frick people like the OP who criticize people for trying to better their situation.

You show loyalty to a person in dollars, that's how you prove your loyalty to an employee.

Complete BS. Companies don’t have unlimited dollars for payroll. A company’s number 1 goal is to profit. It’s business. You show your loyalty by treating the employee like a valued person.

There's companies out there that can do the exact same thing and pay them.
If a company doesn't have money to give raises, then all the more reason to go to a company in a better financial position that can also treat you the same.

10 years at a company and not even offering that company the chance to counter says everything that I need to know about that situation.
That assistant was biding their time to find the right offer to leave. The money helps, but that person wanted out of that company.

Yeah, you wanted to frick her.
You probably even use that same possessive terminology when speaking about her in front of her.
She was smart to leave.

Not with today's inflation.
Wage inflation is a small combustible engine. Only 14% is cheap right now. It is only going to get hotter and stronger.

You will not believe what changed in the 10 years since you last hired an assistant. Holy hell are you in for a surprise. Get creative and retain her or prepare thy anus.

A 14% raise is a meaningful increase. Why wouldn’t she take it?

When you don't take care of good people they will move on to something else at some point.
