Laughing while you admit you’re a failure as a parent. Aces.

But its embarrassing as hell if you can't read it

I think handwriting plays a part here, as well. I doubt it's just the cursive part.

I would think that the similarities between the shapes of the letters would give him enough information to make a rough interpretation.
Exactly what I said... some of the letters are very similar. He sent pic of note and the moms has a bubbly/sloppy penmanship so it's a tough one.

Its not about the writing at all.

Its about the work and effort it took to learn it.

Ok, so poor handwriting. Not a cursive issue.

Instead of laughing you should be embarrassed.

This is why I feel it's ridiculous it's not taught anymore.

ETA: It's part of teaching kids how to learn.

I still write in cursive 95% of the time. It's kind of ridiculous that they don't teach it anymore.

why? 99% of stuff is done on a computer, why do they need to waste time teaching something that is outdated and no longer used?

should we teach how to type using a type writer too? or how to use an old style counting machine to do math or how to use a rotary phone?

what about a pay phone, should we be teaching kids how to use that too?

guess you think balancing a checkbook(who the frick uses a checkbook anyways) is usefull too?

Poor handwriting doesn't help in this case, but it's a cursive issue. Both kids are 3.8-4.0 students, older one has 4.0 after 2 yrs in college. Neither can read cursive. (I'm sure they can make out a few letters but they definitely cannot read it).

Why would they stop teaching cursive in school?

Because it's useless and anyone still using it is just begging for people to not understand what they wrote. Just write basic, legible script.

Most people will not understand this and fight it.

I just let it go at this point.

I'm guessing shitty handwriting might be at play here, too.
