Yeah, in India and South East Asia

From a development standpoint, there is zero reason to pay US wages. Why would you pay $180,000 for at work from home developer in the USA, when you can the same from across the Pacific for $50,000.

Most of the "talent" being paid here in the states was from Tech companies simply having too much money to even care. When fiscally responsible people start taking charge, that will change. Profit margins about to go boom!!!

Ability

This tells me you do not understand the current development world.

Now I will give you for high end development, US/Euro developers are going to excel here. I am talking advanced development of highly proprietary advanced projects. System/Enterprise level type of software, and I would also lump in game development.

Once that is released, future enhancements can be achieved with much cheaper resources. You are almost getting to the simple 80/20 rule. Maybe you need 20% of the dev team to have "ability", the other 80% just need to churn out code.

The programming languages have become so abstracted from low level, that you can watch some youtube videos and download their free tools (which ever language) and be good to go in a couple weeks. There is such an abundance of code examples on the Internet, you can do a search take example and just tweak a few items.

Once you go outside the innovative tech companies, it really falls off a cliff for the need of "ability".

You have to also account for population numbers. There are more developers that meet your "ability" metric in India alone, than the USA.

Anyone going into IT, I would steer them away from development and hardware. Cloud and Network man.

"Learn to Code" is seriously pretty dumb. Those people are not paying attention to where it is all going.

No question about it. Buying and restructuring a social media company is pretty much the second coming of Mother Teresa.

What’s funny is this very board held and continued to hold this very position until like 6 months ago when elon started sticking it to the libs.

There are maybe a handful of people at Twitter that you could consider "Elite tech".

Have you worked with those overseas developers? You have to hold their fricking hands and by the time they get it they are working somewhere else.

Expecting people to work in the office is not micromanaging.

Trying to identify bots and illegitimate accounts is not micromanaging.

It’s time to get back to work.

THIS.

I've been a Tech mgr for 25 years and involved w outsourcing / offshore for 20. You utilize offshore for low value stuff (support, tacticals, etc.). Those guys:
- don't communicate/collaborate worth a shite
- don't know business process at all
- give up when they hit any obstacles
- defect rates are higher
- and just when you've spent the last 6 months ramping them up, they move on or get pulled.

And that's why you give them low value tasks.

It's always been this way. If there's a corp initiative that must get done ASAP, Exec mgmt will demand corp not outsource resources are leading and performing.

In the tech world, expecting people to work in an office is going to put you at a disadvantage as a company.

Idk productivity can be tracked for most office
Jobs.

Very few companies have found productivity going down. I worked For a national insurance
Company and they ended all their office leases and send everyone extra monitors.

Talked on the phone to one of Tesla’s employees at lunch regarding a Powerwall. He said he works remotely from Vegas.

Unfortunately for them all of big tech is or will by having workforce reductions and those jobs will not be coming back, guess they shoulda learned to roughneck.

By all accounts Musk fired/laid off the wrong people. He cut entire teams of workers who knew the ends and outs of the program. Twitter may seem pretty basic to the average person but it's a complex ecosystem. People in the know said this would happen. It's going to have all kinds of technical problems and may eventually become unusable.
