Against who? It’s a workers comp claim. $75k lump sum
Also since hair regulations are part of general g.o.m. for airlines if they (airline/gat) has any proof that she was made aware of such regulations and she signed off on it they may not get that 75k.

Workplace hair standards don't apply to women. especially black womens
They can make them wear hats and tuck whatever dumbass hair they have into the hate. It’s obviously a safety issue.

Fwiw I saw the woman and she was pretty and had normal good looking hair.

Make sure your bow rope doesn't reach the stern.

Sure they do. Just depends on what sector. It doesn’t take much, untucked shirt, glove, hair obviously and you can quickly have a very bad day. I’ve got several friends that have been in the machining business their entire lives, some of the stuff I’ve seen that they share is horrific. I’m sure her demise was much the same. Terrible way to go.

This has been the most disgusting thread I’ve read on TD in many years. Go back and read each post and ask yourself if you don’t truly see it as disgusting. Out of the first few pages there were only a couple of condolences mentioned, or any expressions of grief for what is a horrible tragedy. The inability for a group of adults to avoid projecting every negative experience or stereotype they hold with black people in America onto this pretty, local, and apparently gainfully employed young woman is astounding in a moment when the woman’s horrific death is being revealed to you. fricking gross
Well said.

This is one of my favorite posts here in a long time lol

I'm so glad you have a venue to spout your racist bullshite.

Pretty much any thread here about an outrageous random death is like this. This thread isn't unique in its "disgustingness" for one reason or the other. If you die in a crazy way people on the internet are going to joke about it. Remember that if it every happens to you.
I mean the amount of Darwin posts come to mind.
No one says this when someone falls to their death doing something dumb ignoring warnings or signs.
This is tragic. But until you’ve experienced the very real this is racist about hair. Then I don’t know what to say.
This is a thing.

The new state law does not address potential conflicts between an applicant's or employee's protected hairstyle and an employer's bona fide safety rules or measures. For example, an employee required to wear safety headgear might be precluded from safely doing so by the employee's hairstyle, if the hairstyle prevents the headgear from fitting properly.
What are the odds a lawsuit is now brought anyway?

His head was in the game

That’s gotta be an awful way to go. Prayers to her family.

That seems like an import issue the law should address one way or the other.
Most of the pictures I have seen she has extremely long and completely straightened hair, but I don’t know which are the most recent. In some pics her hair also looked halfway down her back. I think the law is ridiculous and unequal in protection, but her style didn’t seem ethnic or a natural look.
Have these laws been interpreted as just let them do what they want because black women’s hair can’t be subjected to certain things without causing damage or extra expenses like other races regardless of the actual style of their hair?

It's been many many years since I've worked around machinery, so my memory may not be clear. As a teen, I worked on a rig and I recall not being allowed to wear rings on the drill floor (I wasn't married, so it didn't affect me). I also recall, having to keep beards trimmed so oxygen masks could get a good seal. They really didn't play around with this. I really hope this wasn't a case of no one wanting to say anything about the long hair because it could be perceived as discriminatory. These sort of rules are to make sure you go home alive.

What a horrible way to go. Praying for this young lady and her family.

The girl is dead. Whatever legal issues that is at play, let the lawyers handle all of that, but not on this board. They go straight to racist comments.

JBE signed the CROWN Act on Jun 21 of this year. The CROWN Act, which stands for "Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair," amends the definition of intentional discrimination in employment under Louisiana law to include any discriminatory practices with respect to any individual's compensation or terms, conditions, or privileges of employment because of "natural, protective, or cultural hairstyle."
This. That law helped to get her killed.
However, anyone wanna bet a lawsuit is coming against the baggage handling company?

Can we update this thread once the lawsuit is filed?

They will likely go after GAT, Frontier, the maker of the belt loader... and would not be shocked to see cities (yes plural) parishes (yes plural) and state.

There should have been an emergency stop button on the conveyor to prevent this. All the equipment at my job have E-stops
