Long story short, I'll be moving to Dallas in the next few weeks, and am currently looking for an apartment that won't make me broke. Some context: I'm a 24 year old male. I'll be working downtown, so the closer the better but I realize I'll probably have to commute a little bit unless I want to spend a ton of money. I know there are a ton of options, just looking for some help to narrow down the list. Any specific neighborhoods or apartment complexes would be appreciated.

Fairmount St. (east of Medical district just north of downtown and right off the Dallas North Tollway) has some nice places that were reasonably priced a few years ago.

If you're working downtown I would suggest finding a place within walking distance of the DART rail Red Line. Traffic is unfathomable heading into downtown and this will save your wallet and sanity. Just stay generally north of downtown. Uptown is expensive but worth it for a person your age

This is great advice. When I stayed in Dallas I thought I would save $400 a month and drive in, not worth it at all. Uptown is walkable and will have a good bit of stuff for you to do (and lots of single people if you are single).

Uptown/West Village around the Katy Trail is exactly where I’d live if I was 24. There are a ton of apartments and close to rail stations.

Being near the Katy Trail Ice House would be a nice bonus too. Best scenery in Dallas on that trail. ;)

Look around the turtle creek area… know a few people that live there… dart is right outside his complex gate.. hop on to go downtown … can walk a few blocks and at the katy trail…
Has a lot of food beverage..groceries etc all walking distance ..

Some of them rent apartments… some own condos…

If you are working Downtown I wouldn’t live anywhere north of the Village area(Southwestern/Lovers Lane) area as traffic on 75 is awful in both directions. Uptown/Oak Lawn/Knox-Henderson/Lower Greenville are your best spots. Deep Ellum has a lot of new apartments but crime there is not good right now.

How important is safety to you?

There are some cheap apartments around Main and A Field but I’m not sure how good the area is.

Marquis at Texas St. I lived there for 3 years. Convenient to everything (uptown, downtown, and Deep Ellum), and reasonably priced.

Eta: also never lost power during the freezes the last few years nor did any pipes burst.
