The thing about California is its only legal in slow traffic and at a safe difference in speed. You can’t be doing speed limit while traffic is at 20mph.

Legal to do this in California. Makes freeway driving quite the adventure.

If traffic is a parking lot on the interstate due to a big accident, i have no problem with them easing up to the front between the lanes or on the shoulder.

I do. I hear constant bitching from my brother and others that ride about ppl in cars not respecting them on the road. But yet they want to splint lanes and go around cars on the shoulder when traffic is stopped for accidents and other things. frick that they want to be on the road and want cars to look for them but they want special benefits, sounds like a bunch of snowflake liberals.

IN California, they made it officially legal to split lanes a couple of years ago. Prior to that there was no enforcement of it. I believe you can't go faster than 10MPH over prevailing traffic but of course, everyone does. Also not faster than the posted speed limit

I had a joker on a crotch rocket fly past me on the shoulder of a state highway a couple of weeks ago and I was doing 60mph. Some of these guys seriously have a damn death wish, or think they are superman.

It's illegal.
RS 32:191.1
quote:

§191.1. Operating motorcycles on roadways laned for traffic
A. All motorcycles are entitled to full use of a lane and no motor vehicle shall be driven in such manner as to deprive any motorcycle of the full use of a lane. This Subsection shall not apply to motorcycles operated two abreast in a single lane.
B. The operator of a motorcycle shall not overtake and pass in the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken.
C. No person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles.
D. Motorcycles shall not be operated more than two abreast in a single lane.
E. Subsections (B) and (C) shall not apply to police officers in the performance of their official duties.

Added by Acts 1970, No. 538, §5; Acts 1999, No. 631, §1.

But you can't just hit them. That's also illegal.

yeah I am going to need a link proving that. No damn way that can be legal.

they are only allowed to do it legally in slow moving or stopped traffic, and yes it was done because most motorcycle engines will overheat in those conditions if sitting still.

it is not allowed practice to do it "at speed" in normal traffic flow.

its about practicality since the bikes can safely move through and out of congested areas freeing up more space for cars to advance while at the same time its a safety issue since when a motorcycle engine fails and spills oil all over the road it further hampers traffic and causes a road hazard

Lane splitting is legal in California. Almost got my arm tore off on Pacific Coast Hwy when I was dangling it out the window.

Yep, some of them are crazy. Especially in L.A. I don't split lanes unless traffic is virtually stopped. I'm not in that much of a hurry.

Yep, and annoying.

I rather deal with cyclists in summertime in Portland than those damn crazy fricks.

I could never be conditioned to do that normally and think I'll survive.

No, but they deserve to be hit.

And they make people not give a shite about the the “watch for motorcycles” campaign.
