It's 100% legal to hit them, right?

Seems like common sense

Almost clipped one yesterday. Really caught me off guard.

I saw someone get killed doing that on Claiborne Avenue, right near Tulane. It was really horrible.

If I’m not mistaken, it’s legal for motorcycles to do that, which blows my fricking mind

You need to travel to South America, Africa, etc... the dividers between lanes is literally where ALL motorcycles drive and there are almost as many of them as there are cars on the road.

Any percentage of fault can be assessed in an accident.

So your insurance could be hit for 1% damages. If the verdict was, for say, 10 million, that would still be a substantial amount.

Don't ever drive in California if this bothers you.
It's very constant and almost scary there.

Look twice for some a$$hole swerving through traffic at a high rate of speed without any regard for others safety save a life.

It's efficient though.

I made it from nola to BR in just under 20 minutes doing this on a zx-10. It was noon on a weekday, so there wasn't a ton of traffic.

It’s actually legal. So no, I would not advise hitting them.

The law was made for bikes that require constant airflow for engine cooling but obviously it's taken advantage of by most

I'm thinking that you're incorrect if I'm reading the op correctly. I'm assuming that the op is talking about splitting cars without the bike having a lane.

Pretty sure that has nothing to do with why lane splitting is legal on some states
