Depends.

The majority of people do not take care of themselves. So they work all their life, retire at 65-70 then have about 5 years, if that, to enjoy retirement before they have a fall, stroke, heart attack or some debilitating medical condition.

That is why I preach weight lifting and eating right. I workout to build a healthy body composition that I can maintain as I age. I have two uncles that are 80+ and still golf/fish once a week.

You have to stay physically active or you will end up as OP said. Dead before 75

Very few people WANT to work to 70.

A lot of people HAVE to work to 70.

Don’t be one of those people.

And any of your self defined collections you’ve built over the years may end up on a set of tables at the estate sale.

I had a friend who had a Case Knife Collection with many of his knives being in the first 100 or so production sequences. When he realized he wasn’t going to make it another year or two due to heart and lung issues, diabetes, dementia, infections, etc., he asked his 2 children and their 5 kids if they wanted any of the knives. He’d just give them the knives. None of them bit. I believe his wife sold the lot for hardly anything to some guy at their church who would resell them for profit.

I saw that in the rearview mirror a couple of years ago, but my life insurance company thinks I'll make into the 90's.

Not entirely unwelcome. No more users, blames, argument starters, manipulators, whiners, blame shifters, liars, professional victims, Democrats, or other assorted soul killers. Would miss yorkies.

So why, then, would anyone want to work until they’re 70? It’s all heartache, pain and death after that.
my mom worked until she was 72, and she’s a lot better off monetarily, physically, and mentally than most of the other residents in her apartment complex.

I turned 40 a month ago and this realization was sobering. They told us all as kids to enjoy it and not take it for granted. Now the work weeks drag on and the weekends are over before they start.

That's when mid-life crisis hits I"m in my 50s, it's all good. My parents are in their mid 70s (well dad is) mom is 71. They are still happy and healthy. If my kids are wanting me to hurry and die, it will just cause me to live longer out of spite.

I'm very familiar with death.

It is extremely difficult to lose those precious to you.

In my younger days, I loved work.

Life situations change your perspective.

Drive fast, live faster, love as hard as you can.
