Particularly if the parent believes that their kid is a one in a million which a lot of parents do.

What I’ve gotten from this thread is that every youth sport can become ungodly expensive

TL;DR- a kid playing golf doesn't have to be expensive.

True. It depends on how much the parent wants to invest in the child's activity. I learned to play golf with used clubs probably all the way until my junior year in HS. Didn't travel for amateur tournaments, stuck only to high school matches. Our team practiced and played at a local public course M-F through the Fall, all for free. Now I wasn't a great golfer (my best nine-hole score was a +7) but it didn't matter because I played with my friends and had a good time while also making the Varsity team and travelling to courses all across the state.

My brother in law is a much better golfer than I am and was essentially taught by his dad who is a down to earth carpenter guy (also a really good golfer) who's definitely a baw.

That’s insane advice

LOL... it worked out just fine for us... some would say suggesting someone spend 3k-10k a year on youth athletics starting at age 7 would also be "insane advice"

If you don't know what a summer intensive is or haven't bought pointe shoes for a lead nutcracker role type dancer it's totally understandable that you couldn't get how expensive it can be. Of course, there are ways to "take dance" and it not b

I know exactly. My daughter was supposed to be Clara last year but COVID happened and they let 2 other girls have it. She will get it this year.

I guess if rec sports provide enough challenge then it’s ok, we just had a different experience.

If they get on the HS golf team, it's damn near free unless you are the parent that has to have their kid playing the best equipment. Otherwise, get them into some used shite. The kids here in my Houston burb practice at the CC practice area 5 days a week and get a pointer or 2 from the pro since the coach and the pro are close, then they turn them loose to go play after practice.

The correct answer is anything to do with a horse. My daughter does this.......Holy shite......$$$$$$

Equine does. My little cousin jumps horses an it’s crazy expensive. Uncle paid 25g just for the horse not counting about 2 g a month to board, train and have a handler haul the thing around to different jumping events. Plus fees and equipment outfits boots all that stuff is high dollar. I think the horse jumping takes the cake on this one.

Dirt bike racing is one of the most expensive sports for anyone. A new bike for e kids is 3-5k starting off then another 1k for gear. If you dont have somewhere to ride it cost $40 to ride a track etc. My new bike cost $8500

Ice hockey and horses. I've dealt with both.

LOL. Not even close. Most Teens would be riding a 250F right now. A base 250F is about 9K

Dirt bikes are crazy expensive. And its crazy expensive to keep them running. I have 17 years of racing them to prove that.

And a big pile of xrays in the bottom drawer because of it

I personally dont think it is a "sport" but it is listed as so. High School Tournament fishing is huge right now.

I have always personally listed Tournament fishing as a competitive activity. Not really a sport

When I have kids, I'm cheap so my kids will play rugby. Plus their grandpa is a hall of famer so it will be in their blood.

When they're young I plan on having them play whatever is in season. Being active and developing team skills is the highest priority for me.
