Hawkey ... high level travel team
ice time is $250+ an hr (2 games and 2-3 practices per week)
Paid coaches - 5-6 figures for staff, plus parents pay for coaches travel
Equipment - $200 for a stick, $1K skates - and god bless you if you are a goalie parent
Tournaments - 4-5 per yr, travel sometimes by air
Off ice training - 1-2X per week
Skills coach - skating and shooting - 1-2X per week

Its many tens of thousands of yr to play high level travel hawkey and chances of it paying off .... very slim

Dear God. Luckily, that won't be an issue.

Polo

when I lived in FL polo was very big just west of where we were(Palm Beach County,) was very much a high roller, serious money sport, I guess the Colonials try to imitate the Brits, this was where Christopher Reeve was injured, but I knew some people that were sort of into that and there were teams that the rich people would form and "play" on but they would stack the team with ringers, a guy told me, and I've seen some articles that sort of backed him up, that NFL, NBA, and MLB players, with a few exceptions are sort of poors compared to what the ringers are paid(I honestly don't know if this is true)

Cheer and Dance are more expensive than the other girl sports.

Travel Ball is more expensive than the other boy sports.

This is the typical sports. If they do a motorsport it will obviously be higher than those listed above.

On the other side of the coin is the cheapest

Mines have played, HS fishing, volleyball, dancing, rugby and baseball.

The cheapest is by far Rugby. We pay about $125 registration fee, and we do a raffle that we put up a $40 bottle for. Brung you own food, beer drinks to games, no gate fee and the teams typically feed the players and sometimes parents after the matches.

Hockey and figure skating. Hockey is just filled with expensive equipment that constantly needs to update when they grow. If your kid is decent at figure skating, you start having to pay for ice time and training, which isn't cheap by a long shot.

Ice Hockey is pretty high. I started playing in ‘95 and my parents spent over $1k on equipment only and I didn’t get anywhere near the top of the line stuff. The Kingfish’s coaches kids played on my team and they would have multiple $150 - 200 carbon sticks.

I got the heavy arse $50 wooden sticks and knockoff pants.

When you Cipp (required) there is insurance coverage. Now what happens when you get drunk after is a different story

For reference, my 13 yo son plays house hockey (lowest level). The league fee is $1,200 per year, plus about $400 in new equipment (he is a position player, goalie is more expensive) per year.

Hockey, though likely not an option in most areas of the south.

Winner here. And it's not even just the crazy costs, it's the limited opportunities for ice time so your 6 year old has a practice at 5:30 AM on Saturday and 10:30 PM on Sunday and it's $30-$40 per practice here in SE PA. Then the tournament the following weekend is in Long Island and you have to stay at the hotel they designate for 3 nights for 2 games. I'm not a hockey parent but I have friends that are and they all spend well over $15k a year for travel hockey.

I have a couple that do equestrian, dance and wrestling. Wrestling is relatively inexpensive and your kid gets humbled, which makes him a better kid. In the other two they learn, but the pice/life lessons is significantly greater.

If you get into horses, rent, don’t buy. We have 3 horses and it’s like having 3 more kids. Food, medical and shoes are constant expenses and someone has to be there to take care of them.

^^^^^ This. And it's not even close. I made an equestrian Dad gasp once going over dance expenses.

My daughter goes to dance/ballet 6 days a week...it's pretty much year round...they train for recitals for the summer productions and the Nutcracker for the winter production.....both productions are pretty big deals that draw large crowds.
