Define good... My dad is good at golf and he's 67.

Soccer is the easiest sport to play, hardest to be good at. It's like being a puppeteer with your feet.

To everyone in this thread, as parents what are you trying to achieve by participating in sports that cost this much and take up a lot of your time?

College scholarship?
Professional career?
Only way to get social development bc everyone does it?
It’s just fun for you and your children?
Other?

Honest question not criticizing

My entire family has been racing dirt bikes for 40 years and we race the local cross country series and enduro series. Hell I have a 70k lariat f250 and 80k 5th wheel toy hauler just because of dirtbike racing lol. I get a new set of gear every 6 months to a year from my sponsors. I am always spending money on my bikes and kids bikes lol

Dude, that is awesome. I loved every second of it when I was racing. I hated to have to give it up. One of the things I would do for a living over fishing if I had the talent to be at that level.

Absolutely not, they will never make it to a high level without proper training. At the regional level, you won't see a single kid that doesn't work with a trainer regularly. National level and they are living at training facilities.
It's not like baseball or football where natural talent can carry you to a high level. If you aren't putting in the work, you'll never make it out of the beginner class.

Give them a rich life with many experiences, bring out some fight in them, teach them that focus pays off...mostly just to show them that some kids are assholes.

What skates are you buying for $1K? I've played or watched the sport for basically my entire life, so I am familiar with the sport.

Sure. All of the above.

What are you trying to achieve when you spend a few thousand dollars on vacations every year?

Just about anything with horses.

This. The training is $100 each. Then the kid will want a horse (can range $5k - $100k) plus $1500/month for barn/vet/feed costs. Each horse show (competition) is $2500 for travelling horse, stall, food, etc.

Then, add the travel, clothing, saddles, etc. Nothing is inexpensive about a horse.

I keep ETA additional costs as I remember them.

He’s got one in the morning.

Did track and field today. A set of spikes is pretty cheap.

it costs more to feed a horse than I pay for three years of sports
