More than a third of Americans say they occasionally or consistently sleep in another room from their partner, according to a survey from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
The practice of sleeping separately known as a "sleep divorce," and is meant to help you fall asleep and stay asleep without disruptions such as snoring, stolen covers or early alarms.
Married people really doing this?

Why call it a “divorce”?
If you have the means to have two separate bedrooms and both partners get optimal sleep because of it, call it a privilege.

My parents do, Dad will be 70 Saturday, mom is 68.
Dad goes to bed early & keeps tv on mute, Mom likes to watch her shows & stay up late.
I don’t remember my Grandparents ever sleeping in the same bed unless we were on vacation.

We have reached the age where one of us is almost always awake. Right now she is in her bed sound asleep. At around 3 AM she will wake up and stay up most of the night. She'll knock back out at 7 or so for a couple of hours.
I will be awake anywhere fron 1-4 more hours.
It reached a point where neither of us ever got any sleep.
If you want to get nekkid...the other half is just a few steps away.

Husbands and wives slept in separate beds until the late 60's/early 70's so this isn't anything new.

That was only on TV. Families were larger then and homes were smaller. Beatrice was getting poked in the back every night until she opened the carpet garden.

Married for 33 years. Implemented the sleep divorce 2 months ago. It's fabulous I tell you. Solid sleep. No need for napping anymore.

I used to think it was weird that old couples would sleep in separate beds, now I get it. Wife blowin 4am dragon breath directly at my nostrils, toenails scratching, ice cube feet, under the blanket farts, encroaching on my side of the bed… I sneak off to the guest room every now and then just to get a full night of peaceful sleep.

I can somewhat see two separate beds in the same room, but I feel for anyone that wants to be in another room with their spouse when they are home together. There’s something damn comforting about sleeping with your partner all the time.
