Also, could you elaborate on how teaching falls under the laws of supply and demand?
Not trolling, actually curious.

So did you get the seconds or thirds?
ETA I saw you corrected the spelling but that isn't the only problem. Adverbs and adjectives are not interchangeable.

You ever hear of a teacher shortage? It's not as simple as private sector but the general premise still applies. One teacher quits, 10 applicants the next day

Most Louisiana kids are too stupid to learn. Their DNA is mutated from the chemical plant pollution and meth. This state is a disgrace.

When you look at something from a simple numbers standpoint, you would be correct.
But this isn’t all about dollars and cents. If you cut corners on educating kids, then you will see some long-term issues. More and more dropouts, which results in more of our tax dollars being spend on poorly educated people living off of the government.
The public school system in Louisiana is atrocious. There’s a reason why that state also has major issues elsewhere. If you don’t invest in your future, you are screwed.

Considering they have about 4 months off every year, I’d be willing to bet they could easy have a side hustle to compensate for a normal job.
ETA: about investing in the future, BR pays $12k per student which is over the national avg and $4-5k more than Texas ISDs. Investing isn’t the issue, bloated administrations are.

Teachers are overall underpaid for what they are asked to do.
Posted on 1/24/19 at 7:44 pm to TexasTiger08
There’s a percentage of our population that’s too dumb to educate, we need to realize that and put them on a path to digging ditches early.

Ergo, if you want to make over $45K a year, work 12 months.

There's a ton a of waste in the public school system, not an investment problem.

Chance of death and/or injury and living on the job site while you're there is part of it. Total hours worked is another. It's not that hard to figure out

So you don't realize that coaching can be mandatory in many cases? It is not always voluntary.
Jesus, you are stupid.

Now it’s 4 months a year? Geez...I want that position.
Links on $ per kid?
So the bloated administration needs to be voted out. Or do you not vote for school board members? I’ve seen the facilities in several Louisiana cities. You can say what you want, but the money isn’t invested in the schools.

Technically, this is true for anybody who complains about pay, work conditions, etc.

Fire fighters face these conditions. Police face these conditions. They are also underpaid.

Yeah he’s way off, I’m just not in the mood to start enlightening him.

I agree with Mingo on this, if they are underpaid there would be a overall shortage of teacher other than a couple of specific subjects that require taking college classes with significant academic rigor.

Two things I wanted to add to this.
1. Saying teaching is hard is a fallacy. I’ve been in the classroom before on two separate occasions in my life and it’s only hard for people who also just suck at life. Go work at Associated Grocers as a selecter driving an electric pallet jack for 12-15 hours a night stacking pallets for a year. Go work on a crew building fences or doing framing everyday. STFU. Literally every job in food service, construction, farming, industrial, manufacturing and countless other segments are ALL harder than teaching. And NONE get two months off a year or get to take a year off randomly.
2. Apparently according to this thread every single teacher known to man does the cheer squad and the girls basketball team and the boys soccer all at the same time and gets paid $1/hr to do them all! I didn’t realize how many 1st grade cheer squads there were. bullshite. My kids played middle school sports. Literally ONE of their teachers was at the game over seeing the cheer squad and by “over seeing” I mean playing on her phone drinking a Diet Coke. The rest were coaches and the principal and vice principal.
I appreciate teachers. My mom was one and my sister is one. They knew what they were getting into and they don’t complain other than bitch about their boss and everyone has a right to that.
But teachers who continually bitch about pay and run to the public to push tax increases or do dumb shite like what EBR just did to Exxon can STFU or go get another job. Our schools are 49th but their pay is median to our region. They are nothing but a FLEECING.
If our military was run by teachers we’d all high stepping and speaking German today.
Endrant
