Sleeping in a car in southern louisiana in the summer would be miserable as hell.
This whole scenario seems stupid as hell. You can find a decent 2br apartment for under $1000/month and get a roommate and instead of spending $200/month for a storage unit and living like a bum, you could spend $500/month and live like a civilized human being.

That's odd. I don't know anyone that does this.

My friend’s brother did this for 8 years in LA. He acquired 2 small investment properties In other states during that time, kept saving, bought a $750k starter home few years ago and remodeled it.

This part doesn’t make sense.
Even shitty hotels are overpriced now. If they even catch wind that there's a major project close by, they jack their prices up.

dude knows of one person doing this but it’s “more and more”
Once you freely choose to live in a car, you’re no longer normal
yup
I personally know several people who do this. It's becoming scary normal.

I can’t imagine FT in just a car but when I travel alone I’ve slept in h th e back seat of my pick-up a lot. Enough that I have an air mattress under the back seat.
When I’m driving I usually drive until after midnight and want to be back on the road by 6:30 or 7:00. I find it stupid to get a hotel room for 4-5 hours of sleep. I started doing this on a trip where hotels were full and now am pretty much like frick it and sleep in the truck.
I do plan to FT RV in about 4 years. But the RV I’m looking at is a 5th wheel to hauler so I wouldn’t consider that roughing it.

Well, you can't drive your house, but you can live in your car...

I know of no one that does this, maybe you need to upgrade your circle of people you know personally

Shitting in a public toilet for the rest of your life? No thanks.
How does he get laid in the Explorer?

Maybe you need to look around outside your white bread community more. There's a shite ton of homeless people that actually make good money.

I would at least buy a used camper to live in and park it at a RV park

No, they are not.
Because if you live in your car, you are not normal, so your premise is impossible.

Replace that sling camping chair (they weren't a thing in 1986) with a couch left by previous tenant, add a coffee table made from a piece of glass from a desk sitting on two car rims from a '78 Z-28 and make the TV 3x smaller and 5x heavier and you have my Plantation Trace apartment I shared with 3 other guys for two years. Weirdest memory was the place packed with neighbors who were walking past on the way back from class and stopped to watch TV coverage the day of the Challenger explosion.
I think my cut for rent and utilities (one of the dudes had a book on lock picking and after two weeks of trying was able to open a padlock and steal cable) was $75 a month.
Our windows overlooked the pool so the view to a 19 yr old was actually better than the one in the photo. After the first day of class that Spring, 3 of us met three chicks in the laundry room from Houston who had just moved in and got to talking to them. Three hours later we were at the Gold Mine in the FQ, 12 hours after that we were slamming hurricanes at Pat O's the next morning missing our second dau of classes. One of the couples that paired up that night are still married to this day.

I can barely sleep on an airplane with the seat reclined. I can’t imagine trying to sleep in a reclined car seat every night. Saving money is important but getting good sleep is worth a lot IMO.
